Prof. Gang Shen Continues to Shine Among Top Scientists Globally for Fourth Year
Professor Gang Shen Among the Top Scientists
In a notable achievement, Professor Gang Shen from Taikang ByBo Dental has been recognized as one of the world’s top 2% scientists for the fourth consecutive year, as per a recent listing produced by Stanford University and Elsevier. This recognition, spanning not only the single-year scientific impact but also the career-long scientific influence, underscores his sustained contributions to the field of orthodontics.
Sustained Excellence in Research
Prof. Shen has been acknowledged in the Single-Year Scientific Impact list for the years 2023 through 2026, along with being part of the Career-Long Scientific Impact list for both 2025 and 2026. This remarkable consistency reflects not only his current research outputs but also the enduring academic impact his work has generated over the years, particularly in addressing complex orthodontic challenges.
According to the latest evaluation which aggregated data until August 1, 2026, the methodology integrates various citation indicators, including total citations, the h-index, and co-authorship metrics to determine scientific impact across a wide spectrum of 20 scientific fields and 174 subfields.
Focus on Complex Orthodontic Cases
For over three decades, Prof. Shen, alongside his dedicated team, has devoted their research efforts to areas such as mandibular repositioning, temporomandibular joint remodeling, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of intricate dentofacial deformities. Prof. Shen attributes the recognition in the career-long list to their unwavering commitment over decades toward advancing orthodontic practices.
The research team has engaged in extensive studies focusing on adult malocclusions characterized by deep overbite, overjet, and other high-complexity facial structures. Their findings have been extensively published in notable journals such as the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, the Journal of Dental Research, and the Journal of Aligner Orthodontics. Some representative studies include significant insights into severe Class II Division 1 malocclusions and the biology of temporomandibular joint growth modification, among others.
Collaboration with Smartee Denti-Technology
In 2019, Prof. Shen’s strategic collaboration with Smartee Denti-Technology catalyzed further advancements in the clinical applications of mandibular repositioning. Their joint efforts culminated in the development of a technologically advanced treatment system to address alignment and jaw positioning issues. This partnership has enabled breakthroughs in diagnostic classifications, appliance development, and overall treatment methodologies.
“Achieving recognition for four consecutive years on the single-year list is a testament to the ongoing innovation and research that stem from our collaboration. Our aim is to push the boundaries of what’s possible in orthodontics, particularly concerning mandibular repositioning,” remarked Prof. Shen.
Looking Ahead
As the field of orthodontics continues to evolve, Prof. Shen's latest recognitions underscore a growing repository of research examining not only mandibular positioning and temporomandibular joint adaptation but also the nuances of treating complex malocclusions. He believes this trajectory of inquiry will keep opening avenues for further research and garner interest from broader segments within the dental profession and beyond.
Prof. Gang Shen’s consistent accolades serve as an inspiration for the next generation of orthodontists and researchers, elucidating the importance of sustained dedication to research and clinical excellence in advancing dental science globally.
