Okibo Partners with PCI to Revolutionize Netflix House Construction Using Robotics in Pennsylvania
In a groundbreaking partnership, Okibo, a frontrunner in construction robotics, has teamed up with Performance Contracting, Inc. (PCI) to enhance the construction of the Netflix House project located in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. This innovative venture marks a significant leap forward in utilizing robotic technology in the building sector, specifically within one of the largest specialized contractors in the United States.
A New Era in Construction
The Netflix House, sprawling over 100,000 square feet, is not just a construction project; it’s set to become an immersive entertainment venue featuring themed dining options and retail outlets, alongside experiences corresponding to popular shows like _Stranger Things_ and _Bridgerton_. As the landscape of construction evolves, so does the integration of technology designed to streamline processes and improve productivity.
Okibo's advanced drywall and painting robots are introducing a substantial change on site, addressing critical challenges faced in the finishing process. One of the primary issues encountered by workers was the excessive physical fatigue brought on by traditional sanding methods, especially during overhead tasks that necessitated the use of lifts or scaffolding. By deploying Okibo's robotic system, these concerns are alleviated, leading to a notable enhancement in the workers' overall well-being and safety.
Boosting Productivity and Safety
According to reports, workers have experienced an impressive boost in production, with some indicating up to a fivefold improvement in the efficiency of Level 4 and Level 5 sanding tasks. This is especially advantageous in large rooms, where productivity often dwells; however, these robots can also maneuver seamlessly into tighter spaces, ensuring that no area is overlooked.
Kevin Murphy, a Journeyman employed on this ambitious project, shared his personal experience using Okibo's robot, contrasting it with traditional methods. "I used a traditional power sander in one of the largest rooms and was exhausted by the end of the day. However, after using the Okibo robot in another room, I didn't feel drained at all. It’s been a lifesaver for my body and shows that PCI genuinely cares about our long-term health and safety like reducing ladder and scaffold usage," Murphy expressed.
The robots employ a unique AI-guided 3D scanning technology that allows them to operate almost autonomously, requiring minimal setup and preparation. This advancement means workers can focus on their craft rather than getting bogged down with measurements and equipment setup, enhancing their proficiency on site.
Future Collaborations on the Horizon
The collaboration between Okibo and PCI goes beyond just this project. Both companies have expressed intentions to extend their partnership, with plans to employ Okibo’s robotic technology on an upcoming data center construction project planned for later this summer in Washington D.C. The potential for further advancements in the robotics sector is enormous, especially as industries grapple with labor shortages and seek to optimize safety and production levels.
"We are proud to build such a significant partnership with PCI, demonstrating the financial and safety advantages of our drywall and sanding robotics. Our solutions empower skilled workers, enabling them to accomplish their tasks with greater efficiency and security," stated Nadav Shuruk, CEO of Okibo USA.
