On March 8, 2025, coinciding with International Women's Day, an inspiring call to action rings out from organizations worldwide, notably from Education Cannot Wait (ECW). This initiative emphasizes the critical importance of education as a means to empower women and girls everywhere. Despite the progress made, UNESCO reports that women constitute nearly two-thirds of all adults who cannot read worldwide, a stark reminder of the challenges still faced. This issue is exacerbated in regions affected by armed conflicts, climate change, and forced displacements, where around 234 million children find themselves in crisis situations, half of whom are girls desperately in need of educational support.

Somaya Faruqi, who led this team to international acclaim, has emerged as a strong advocate for the education of Afghan girls and encourages global leaders to give ear to the #AfghanGirlsVoices, advocating for equality and universal access to quality education.

As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, we reaffirm the commitment to ensure human rights for all women.
