Launch of Border Briefs: A Series to Illuminate the U.S.-Mexico Border
On May 15, 2025, the U.S.-Mexico Border Philanthropy Partnership (BPP) introduced its innovative publication series,
Border Briefs, designed to delve into the multifaceted challenges and opportunities present at the U.S.-Mexico border. This distinguished initiative aims to shift the narrative surrounding the border from one of crisis to one enriched with potential, shedding light on its complexities and fostering informed dialogue among stakeholders.
The series features extensive research and analysis across six pivotal themes: Health, Environment, Education, Migration, Philanthropy, and Border Dynamics. Collaboratively created with Dr. Paul Ganster, a renowned scholar from San Diego State University,
Border Briefs presents data-driven insights that target funders, policymakers, and community stakeholders who are invested in the border region.
Purpose and Objectives of Border Briefs
Emphasizing the necessity of understanding the border's realities, BPP Executive Director Andy Carey commented, "The border is often misunderstood, too often seen only through the lens of crisis. The
Border Briefs aim to challenge that narrative with real data, local voices, and constructive pathways forward—amplifying the truth that solutions exist and collaboration is possible."
The official launch event took place at the North American Development Bank (NADBank) in San Antonio, Texas, bringing together leaders from various sectors—public, private, and civic—who are committed to advancing cross-border collaboration. The event was designed not just to celebrate the launch but also to inspire action among changemakers in attendance.
