OUR STORIES: A Red Carpet Screening
On May 31, 2025, The Michael's Daughter Foundation, in partnership with The Miracle Theater, will host the inspiring event titled 'OUR STORIES: A Red Carpet Screening.' This special gathering will celebrate the creative achievements of nine original short films crafted by talented youth enrolled in the foundation's 'Our Stories' media arts program. The screening is set to take place from 12 PM to 4 PM PST at The Miracle Theater located in Inglewood, California.
The event marks the third year of the 'Our Stories' program, which has been pivotal in encouraging youth from inner-city schools to articulate their experiences through diverse forms of storytelling and filmmaking. "Every film represents a voice that deserves recognition," explains Ciera Payton, actress, writer, and the visionary behind The Michael's Daughter Foundation. Ciera reflects on the profound impact she has witnessed in young storytellers as they navigate their creative journeys. 'This showcase celebrates resilience, creativity, and the transformative power of sharing one’s truth.'
Hosted by Sophina DeJesus, an accomplished actress and gymnast, the event will welcome families, educators, artists, and community leaders to participate in this remarkable celebration of youth empowerment. Attendees will walk the red carpet, enjoying an opportunity to honor the courage and creativity of the next generation while building connections within the community.
The screening stands out not only as an exhibition of current works but also serves as an important stepping stone for young aspiring filmmakers to advance their artistic practices. By providing a platform to showcase their creativity, the event fosters confidence and ambition among students, motivating them to pursue their dreams and keep sharing their narratives.
About The Michael's Daughter Foundation
Founded by Ciera Payton, who has appeared in productions such as Tyler Perry's 'The Oval,' The Michael's Daughter Foundation was inspired by her own life experiences. The foundation arose from her one-woman stage play, 'Michael's Daughter,' which delves into the stories surrounding her father's incarceration and its impact on her life. The foundation's mission is to offer storytelling and artistic education to youth, particularly those affected by such circumstances.
The 'Our Stories' program operates throughout Los Angeles, California, offering mentorship and a creative space for teens and young adults to express their voices and influence their futures positively. Supported by various community partners and organizations, including the LA County Justice, Care and Opportunities Department, the program aims to uplift and empower youth through art and storytelling.
