Unleash Your Inner Actor with a Unique Theatre Program
Have you ever dreamed of being on stage? This fall, the legendary Akira Theatre Company joins forces with Tokyo Shimbun to offer a theatre course that transforms novices into performers. This 10th season introduces participants to Anton Chekhov's masterpiece,
Three Sisters, a poignant tale of love, unfulfilled dreams, and the yearning for a better life.
Experience the Magic of Theatre
Starting in 2023, this course caters to those with no prior acting experience. Over the course of eight sessions, you will engage in a hands-on, immersive program where current members of the Akira Theatre take on the role of instructors. This small-group format ensures personalized attention as you learn the fundamentals of acting, regardless of your age or background.
If you've ever wanted to act or engage in genuine dialogue with others, this course offers a remarkable opportunity to fulfill such a lifelong aspiration under the guidance of experienced professionals.
Dive into the World of Chekhov
This season’s focus is Chekhov's
Three Sisters, depicting the lives of three siblings in a rural Russian town as they grapple with their dreams of moving to the bustling city of Moscow. The narrative artfully explores themes of hope and despair, capturing the complexities of love and longing. Participants will have the chance to bring this intricate story to life using their own voices and interpretations.
Guided by Professional Actor Akari Sato
The guiding force behind the course is Akari Sato, a seasoned actress who has been with the Akira Theatre since 1994. Her extensive experience in stage, film, and voice work makes her an ideal mentor for participants. “It’s okay to feel shy,” Sato encourages, “I would love for us to discover the joys of theatre together!” Her warm and welcoming approach creates an environment where everyone can thrive and enjoy the process.
