pgEdge Enhances Cloud Services
pgEdge, Inc., a prominent player in the distributed Postgres domain, has rolled out its latest version of pgEdge Cloud Edition. This innovative cloud-based Database as a Service (DBaaS) is fully built on the open-source PostgreSQL database, making it the first of its kind. By allowing businesses to deploy applications across multiple cloud regions, pgEdge Cloud aims to deliver heightened availability and performance, ensuring that data residency needs are met.
New Features and Enhancements
Multi-Availability Zone Support
One of the standout features in this latest release is the multi-availability zone support. This allows customers to deploy multiple nodes within a single region but across different availability zones. Such a feature significantly enhances fault tolerance and aligns with high-availability best practices, making cluster topologies more adaptable and resilient.
Automated Conflict Resolution
Handling conflicts in distributed environments just got smarter with pgEdge Cloud’s expanded automatic conflict resolution capabilities. This feature reduces the necessity for application-level exception handling code, addressing common scenarios like duplicate inserts and missing delete targets automatically. The system also supports unique constraint violations managed via configurable Last-Write-Wins logic, simplifying the application development process.
Performance Improvements
pgEdge Cloud brings measurable boosts in performance, especially for replication operations. Exception handling is now conducted in-memory, reducing latency and expediting conflict resolution. Lag tracking has been redesigned to function at the target node, which enhances measurement accuracy and addresses misleading lag reports that could arise during idle times. These upgrades facilitate faster and more dependable replication behavior across distributed clusters, which is vital for businesses reliant on real-time data access.
Leadership Comments
Phillip Merrick, Co-founder and CEO of pgEdge, expressed enthusiasm about the latest enhancements. He stated, "We are very pleased to announce that the latest release of pgEdge Cloud is available and, as in the past, built on standard open-source PostgreSQL. These vital enhancements continue to align with our mission to simplify the process for developers aiming to construct, deploy, and operate enterprise-class distributed Postgres applications on a global scale."
Security Certification
In addition to performance and functionality improvements, pgEdge has successfully completed a System and Organization Controls (SOC) 2 Type II audit conducted by Sensiba LLP. This audit, established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), evaluates controls relevant to security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy. Notably, pgEdge’s SOC 2 Type II report received a clean audit opinion, indicating no exceptions or concerns.
