MOL Group's Global Community Engagement Efforts during BLUE ACTION for ALL Campaign

MOL Group's Community Engagement Initiatives

MOL Group, led by President Takeshi Hashimoto and headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, set a notable campaign period called "BLUE ACTION for ALL" from July 21 to October 13. This initiative mobilized their entire group to engage in social contribution activities across various locations worldwide.

Kicking off the campaign on Maritime Day, July 21, MOL organized a car carrier tour event. This drew the participation of around 1,000 employees from about 40 group companies across 15 countries. Each company engaged in unique community-focused initiatives, including cleanup activities at beaches and rivers, maritime education for the next generation, and tree planting projects. Participants expressed their awareness of environmental conservation and shared the rewarding experience of teamwork through these activities.

After the completion of the campaign, a reflection meeting titled "Think Tank for Social Contribution" was held for group executives, providing them with a platform to revisit the group's policy and approaches to social contribution. The MOL Group recognizes its crucial role in marine business, emphasizing the importance of conserving marine biodiversity and conveying the significance of the maritime industry to the next generation.

MOL Group has identified three key focus areas for their social contribution efforts: "Marine Environment," "Next Generation Talent Development," and "Community Issue Resolution." Various efforts were undertaken by the MOL companies globally:

  • - MOL (EUROPE AFRICA) LTD. participated in the renovation of the Prince Philip Maritime Collection Centre at the Royal Museums Greenwich and engaged in local community facility conservation work.
  • - In Indonesia, PT MOL organized tree planting with native species.
  • - MOL (Asia Oceania) Pte. Ltd. celebrated the 60th anniversary of the nation by collaborating with maritime stakeholders for ceremonial tree planting and focused on maritime education for youth.
  • - In Norway, MOL Shipping Norway AS held cultural and maritime classes aimed at educating the next generation.
  • - Numerous cleanup activities were coordinated across locations, such as Hamburg’s riverbank ecosystem conservation, coastline cleanups in the Philippines, and community visits supporting elderly residents in Hong Kong.

Additionally, several companies made significant highlights, such as:
  • - The company sponsored social welfare facility visits in Vietnam and carried out mangrove plantation activities assisting in local biodiversity.
  • - Educational expos were also conducted, where employees engaged with students to highlight the importance of maritime careers.
  • - In Japan, community events like the Family Day included workplace tours and experiences in wheelchair rugby.
  • - In a commemorative event, MOL Group participated in a memorial ceremony for the victims of the GIANT STEP maritime accident, affirming their commitment to maritime safety and culture.

Through these collective efforts, MOL Group is not just contributing to environmental protection but also nurturing future talents and resolving community challenges. As the result of these initiatives illustrates, teamwork is at the heart of MOL's social responsibility vision as they continue to push for a legacy of sustainability and environmental stewardship.
