Shawna Rosenzweig Becomes the New CEO of Camp Fire



Effective January 1, 2025, Camp Fire, a prominent national youth development organization, welcomed Shawna Rosenzweig as its Chief Executive Officer. Rosenzweig steps into this crucial role with an impressive background of over twenty years in Positive Youth Development (PYD). Her leadership is expected to usher in a new era of innovation and social impact tailored to the needs of today’s youth and families.

A Vision for the Future



Rosenzweig's vision focuses on expanding Camp Fire’s programming and establishing equitable opportunities for young people, while fostering new strategic partnerships that will enhance the organization's relevance as it looks to the future. Her history with Camp Fire began in 2013 when she joined as the Director of Program Delivery and Evaluation. She quickly climbed the ranks to Chief Strategy Officer, and most recently, President. Over this time, she has proven instrumental in strengthening Camp Fire’s national influence in youth development and securing over $10 million in investments aimed at enriching young people's lives.

Commitment to Youth Well-being



In her own words, Rosenzweig expressed her profound commitment to her new role: "I am deeply honored to serve as Camp Fire's CEO. Growing up is hard. At a time when young people face greater mental health challenges and disconnection, our mission is vital." She aims to further elevate Camp Fire’s stature in youth development and ensure that more young individuals feel recognized and valued.

Championing Diversity and Access



Throughout her tenure, Rosenzweig has made significant strides towards inclusivity. She has led initiatives to combat cultural appropriation, spearheaded the development of The Camp Fire Journey, and launched the C.A.M.P.E.R. initiative, which facilitates access to overnight camps for historically marginalized youth. Additionally, she has enacted a national STEM strategy and expanded various programs for middle and high school students over the last decade. Her efforts have earned her recognition, including the Worthy100 Award from L'Oréal Groupe for her impactful work in the youth development sector.

A Rich Background in Youth Development



Before joining Camp Fire, Rosenzweig contributed her talents to organizations such as the Thrive Foundation for Youth and Sesame Workshop, where she developed programs that meet the diverse needs of young people. Her international experience includes developing conflict resolution programs in the Middle East, showcasing her commitment to fostering understanding among diverse youth populations. Rosenzweig is also active in the youth development community, serving on the board of directors for the National Afterschool Association and advising numerous national initiatives. In 2025, she will address using outdoor spaces as a therapeutic solution for the youth mental health crisis at the SXSW EDU conference, further emphasizing her role as a thought leader.

Under Rosenzweig's transformative leadership, Camp Fire anticipates a new chapter of growth. With affiliates across 24 states and Washington, D.C., they connect over 100,000 young individuals and families each year through enriching programs. Rosenzweig's strategic vision will empower these affiliates to create inclusive, impactful initiatives that enrich the lives of youth, connecting them to the outdoors and each other.

Founded in 1910, Camp Fire was a pioneer in offering nonsectarian, multiracial opportunities for girls. Today, it serves as an inclusive national youth development nonprofit dedicated to all young people. By providing safe spaces for fun and personal growth, its 46 affiliates across 24 states facilitate various youth-driven experiences, from camps to afterschool programs, all aimed at nurturing the skills necessary for long-term success and positive societal impact.
