West Virginia American Water Invests $500,000 for Infrastructure Enhancement in Dunbar

West Virginia American Water's Investment in Dunbar's Infrastructure

West Virginia American Water recently announced a significant infrastructure upgrade worth $500,000 on 17th Street in Dunbar. This endeavor is part of the company's broader commitment to enhance water service reliability and quality across the state.

Scott Wyman, the President of West Virginia American Water, stated, "We are committed to continued investment in our infrastructure systems across the state. This project will benefit the Dunbar community and customers we serve and allow us to continue providing safe, clean, reliable, and affordable water." This statement underscores the company's dedication to meeting the water needs of its customers while ensuring high service standards.

The ongoing project includes the replacement of 800 feet of aging pipe, utilizing both 6-inch and 2-inch PVC mains. The work is set to take place along 17th Street, specifically between Fletcher Avenue and Route 25, also known as Fairlawn Avenue. The completion of this project is expected by the end of May, with final street restorations planned for summer 2026.

This infrastructure upgrade is part of a larger, ambitious plan by West Virginia American Water, which aims to invest over $134 million in infrastructure improvements throughout the state in 2026. Such investments have a proven positive impact on local economies; studies indicate that for every $1 million allocated to water infrastructure, approximately ten jobs are generated within the community.

For the past decade, West Virginia American Water has shown a strong commitment toward improving its infrastructure, having already invested over $805 million in various projects and capital upgrades. This includes the addition of over 168 miles of new water mains across West Virginia, facilitating improved service delivery to countless residents.

During the construction phase of the Dunbar project, work crews will be active from Monday to Friday, between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Residents should anticipate some traffic restrictions during this time. Additionally, customers may face temporary inconveniences such as short service interruptions, discolored water, and fluctuations in water pressure. The company has assured that crews will work diligently and effectively to minimize these disruptions to the community.

For any water-related emergencies, such as leaks or main breaks, customers are encouraged to reach out through the company’s website to submit service requests. West Virginia American Water remains vigilant about ensuring the safety and quality of water services for its customers.
