Beko Achieves Top ESG Score in Home Durable Goods Industry for 2024

Beko Achieves Top ESG Score in the Home Durable Goods Sector

Beko, a globally recognized leader in consumer durables and electronics, has recently made headlines by earning an impressive score of 89 out of 100 in the SP Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) for 2024. This achievement marks the sixth consecutive year that Beko has led the home durable goods (DHP) industry. The score itself, dated November 22, 2024, emphasizes the company's ongoing commitment to sustainable practices and responsible governance.

The SP Global CSA evaluates the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts of the world's largest corporations. Beko's placement among the top 45 firms in the DHP category highlights its significant role as a key player in promoting sustainability within the sector. Additionally, this noteworthy recognition coincides with Beko celebrating the approval of its climate targets based on scientific guidelines by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). These validated targets aim to effectively tackle climate change with precise, measurable objectives, marking a critical advancement not only for Beko but for the entire appliance industry.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, Beko aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions throughout its entire value chain by 2050. The company has set short-term goals to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and Scope 3 emissions — linked to product usage — by the same percentage by 2030, using 2022 as a baseline. Looking towards the future, Beko aspires to cut its absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% and Scope 3 emissions by a similar 90% by 2050, again using 2022 figures as the reference point.

Reflecting on the continuous acknowledgment from the SP Global CSA, CEO Hakan Bulgurlu stated, "Achieving net-zero emissions aligned with a 1.5°C climate trajectory is our top priority. We are relentlessly developing advanced technologies to enhance the energy efficiency of our products while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions. Furthermore, we are increasing our investments in renewable energy and bolstering our capacities. It is rewarding to see these efforts recognized globally as proof that we are on the right path. Sustainability is not merely a goal; it is a responsibility we owe to our business, our planet, and future generations."

Beko's remarkable ESG score and unwavering commitment to sustainable growth serves as an inspiration for businesses worldwide to prioritize environmental responsibility, social impact, and governance in their operational frameworks. By leading through action, the company is making a tangible contribution to a more sustainable future for all.
