AEON English Conversation Workshop: A Unique English Rakugo Experience
On November 30, 2025, AEON (headquartered in Shinjuku, Tokyo, and led by CEO Taku Shigeno) hosted its third interactive student event titled "English Rakugo & Workshop." The event featured renowned performers from the English Rakugo Association, Kuniyuki Kamizukuri and Ichirin Kamizukuri, as participants enjoyed a blend of entertainment and learning.
Rakugo is a traditional Japanese form of storytelling that uses only words to convey humor and narratives, relying heavily on non-verbal communication such as facial expressions, tone of voice, and gestures. This art form captivates audiences by vividly painting scenes and emotions through performance.
Forty-five students and their families participated in this event, which began with an enjoyable session of English Rakugo, encouraging participants to appreciate the nuances of the language while engaging with the stories. The atmosphere was vibrant and filled with laughter as everyone immersed themselves in the performances.
Following the storytelling, attendees were invited to take part in group activities that involved performing short stories. This exercise placed less emphasis on linguistic accuracy and more on expression and delivery, thus highlighting the importance of communication skills. Many took to the stage, including two students from the third and second years of junior high, showcasing their confidence and creativity despite the limited practice time available.
Notably, Kamizukuri praised the AEON students, stating, "It is rare to see so many hands shoot up in participation at a Japanese event! AEON students are impressive!" Such feedback from a professional performer encouraged participants and demonstrated the positive impact of the workshop.
Participants expressed their enjoyment and newfound interest in English Rakugo, with remarks like, "I want to perform English Rakugo myself!" and "One hour was simply not enough!" This enthusiastic response reaffirmed AEON’s commitment to providing value through engaging experiences and fostering a love for learning.
At AEON, the goal is to utilize English as a medium for enjoyable conversation and to actively support everyone in their journey toward language proficiency and personal aspirations. The workshop was a testament to AEON’s dedication to blending education with enjoyable experiences in creative ways.
