Supporting the Noto Community Through Quality Sleep
On September 3rd, in recognition of "Sleep Day," Showa Nishikawa Co., Ltd., a company based in Chuo, Tokyo, initiated its third consecutive year of providing custom-made pillows as part of their support efforts for the earthquake-stricken Noto region. The event took place in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture, aimed at expressing gratitude to caregivers and medical professionals who have worked tirelessly in the community.
A Commitment to the Local Community
Since the Noto Peninsula earthquake in 2024, Showa Nishikawa has been dedicated to enhancing the well-being of the local residents through better sleep. In the program's inaugural year, 190 custom pillows were distributed in Wajima City, and, in 2025, 90 additional pillows were delivered along with maintenance to last year’s recipients. This year, Showa Nishikawa organized a special event in Nanao City to provide personalized pillows to healthcare workers and caregivers, delivering comfort and appreciation to those who support the community.
During the event, expert staff crafted bespoke pillows tailored to individual needs, with a limited number available as gifts. Participants had the unique opportunity to receive a pillow specifically designed for their optimal sleeping experience.
Special Guests Support the Initiative
The event was also graced by two participants from the Miss World 2024 Japan pageant, Kiana Tomita and Sairyo Tsujii. They engaged with attendees, providing encouragement and gratitude to the local heroes of the healthcare and caregiving sectors.
Kiana Tomita shared her personal insights from the event, noting how important it was to hear firsthand accounts from the community. She remarked, "Health maintenance is challenging, especially during times of disaster when securing basic needs is tough. Many expressed excitement as they tried the custom pillows for the first time; their joy was palpable! Quality sleep directly correlates to a healthy and secure life. I felt honored to play a role in providing these necessary resources."
Sairyo Tsujii echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the positive impact of sleep on daily life. She was particularly moved by the smiles of those who had been struggling with sleep issues, expressing how the initiative has expanded its reach to also support those involved in caregiving such as healthcare professionals and childcare workers. "Such sustained efforts to address core daily needs truly deserve appreciation."
Future Initiatives
Showa Nishikawa is committed to continuing this valuable work, ensuring the Noto community thrives through better sleep solutions. The company is dedicated to supporting the well-being of everyone in the region with its initiatives.
