Ten Local Sports Clubs Recognized Under New Certification System by JSPO

Introduction

The Japan Sports Association (JSPO), a public interest incorporated foundation located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, has taken a significant step in promoting local sports development by initiating the "Registration and Certification System for Local Comprehensive Sports Clubs." After evaluating applications from 19 clubs, 10 clubs have been officially recognized as certified clubs under the "Local Development Type of Club Activities" as of October 8, 2025.

What is the Certification System?

This certification system was designed to create a conducive environment for sports participation, viewing, and support within communities across Japan. With its inaugural implementation in the 2025 fiscal year, it sets a precedent for how local sports initiatives can thrive under organized support and recognition from national governing bodies.

These clubs were selected for their ongoing commitment to enhancing sports activities in their respective communities, embodying the spirit of local engagement and development.

Support and Future Development

JSPO will continue to provide support to these certified clubs, encouraging their growth and further development in community sports. The recognition serves to motivate the clubs to enhance the reach and quality of sports offerings in their regions. Furthermore, the local branch of the Ministry of Education hopes to streamline the coordination between JSPO’s certification system with municipal authorities, creating new pathways for collaboration.

As more clubs attain certification under the «Local Development Type,» it is expected that both the quantity and quality of community sports activities will improve. This will ultimately contribute to the enhancement of the regional sports environment.

Conclusion

The official recognition of these ten local clubs is not just a milestone for those involved but also a significant advancement for sports culture in Japan. By focusing on fostering local sports clubs, JSPO is taking crucial steps to develop a vibrant sports ecosystem that encourages participation, appreciation, and support at the community level. As the program progresses, further expansion and more clubs are anticipated, amplifying the overall impact on local sports.
