Originally performed in 1827 at the Kawarazaki Theatre in Edo, "Dokudochu Gojusan-tsugi" is a classic work penned by the fourth generation playwright, Tsuruya Nanboku IV, known for his contributions to notable works such as "Tokaido Yotsuya Kaidan" and "Sakura Hime Azuma Bunsho". After a lengthy hiatus, the play was revived in 1981 by the eminent actor Ichikawa Ennosuke III. This production is exceptionally popular within the Sawamuraya troupe, with 12 revivals already to its name, making it a significant part of “San Dai Ennosuke’s 48 Selections”.

This upcoming show fuses traditional Kabuki with modern storytelling through the collaboration of the original reading performance titled "Koekabu".
