1. Top Performers: The leading happiness rankings reveal that Kadena Town in Okinawa Prefecture topped the list, followed by Hasami Town in Nagasaki Prefecture, which made a significant leap from 18th place last year to second. The third position was claimed by Kadogawa Town in Miyazaki Prefecture.

The happiness score is derived from five years of compiled data from 2021 to 2025, averaging responses from more than 50 individuals per municipality. In cases where responses were fewer, earlier years' data were incorporated to ensure robust results.

1. Most Desired Living Places: The top three cities where people want to continue residing are also located in the Okinawa region—Kadena Town and Chatan Town, both securing the first and second places consecutively for two years. The third position remains stable with Nakagusuku Village.

Similar to the happiness rankings, the livability indices cover five years, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of residents' views on their living conditions.

Top 20 Happiness Ranking Summary:
  • - Out of the rankings from positions 11 to 20, Kunisaki City in Oita Prefecture significantly improved its standing, shooting up from 80 to 16. Other notable improvements include Fukuoka's Koga City moving from 21st to 11th, while Kumamoto City's Nishi Ward leaped from 45th to 15th.

Top 20 Livability Ranking Summary:
  • - Among the live-worthy cities, Minami-Harbora Town in Okinawa jumped from 45th to 20th. Other cities making significant gains included Kitakyushu's Moji Ward from 21st to 13th.
