In May 2024, LiuGong marked a significant milestone with the introduction of its first electric construction machinery project involving the establishment of water wells in South Africa.

The project, which centered on constructing a solar-powered water well reaching a depth of 150 meters in Mabeesekraal, now provides clean water access to over 25,000 households. Such initiatives not only highlight LiuGong’s commitment to environmental stewardship but also underscore the importance of engaging with communities to create lasting impact.

Their specialized research institute plays a crucial role in advancing technology while paving the way for industrialization through the establishment of a robust ecological system. LiuGong currently offers a wide range of electric products across 11 categories, while significantly reducing carbon emissions—a feat equating to planting over 18 million trees globally. Furthermore, the company has ensured that more than 10% of its monthly international sales come from electric products, reflecting a steadfast commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.

In addition to these initiatives, LiuGong has accelerated in-house production of critical battery components, with a green battery manufacturing facility now operational. Throughout 2023, 27 projects were launched targeting volatile organic compounds (VOCs), welding fumes, and other pollutants to minimize emissions. LiuGong's energy use has been optimized through both financial policies and photovoltaic initiatives, helping generate 52 million kWh of clean energy annually. Furthermore, employees are encouraged to uphold green practices through comprehensive training programs.

Building a Sustainable Supply Chain

LiuGong is actively working toward building an efficient sustainable supply chain by integrating various initiatives. This ‘green’ supply chain prioritizes environmentally friendly practices from product analysis to acceptance. For example, the company emphasizes energy-efficient products, the adoption of reusable packaging, and rigorous supplier audits that consider not just the financial aspects, but also environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors. This commitment to transparency has established long-term partnerships throughout the industry.

The company's digital transformation is further highlighted by implementing a Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) platform that has led to savings of over 4.3 tons of paper each year. Their collaborative cloud platform enhances real-time interactions with more than 1,500 suppliers, streamlining supply chain efficiency while advancing integrated operations.
