Collaboration Between Gaxi and Marui Group
In December 2023, Gaxi and the Marui Group began a capital and business collaboration aimed at delivering new financial services for future generations. The inclusion of Gaxi in the point donation menu is a direct result of this partnership—reflecting their joint commitment to expanding opportunities for young people. This initiative emphasizes the shared mission of creating financial flows that empower youth and supports their aspirations while alleviating financial burdens.
Scholarship Landscape for Future Generations
As of 2023, the total amount of scholarships available stands at approximately 1.3 trillion yen, while overall education expenses reach 16.4 trillion yen. Unfortunately, scholarships currently cover only about 8% of educational costs in Japan, a stark contrast to the 73% coverage in the United States. With the number of scholarship recipients increasing each year, projections estimate that by 2024, there will be around 1.34 million recipients in Japan—indicating that nearly half of all students are dependent on some form of financial aid. However, a troubling 70% of these scholarships require repayment, putting students in a challenging position of debt.
This dire financial situation calls for comprehensive solutions that allow future generations to focus on learning without the added pressure of financial strain. The Marui Group is dedicated to assisting students in overcoming these burdens through initiatives like this new donation program.
Utilization of Donations
Donations collected from Epos Card members will be used to establish scholarships for students aiming to study abroad. As contributions accumulate, Gaxi will organize funding rounds on their website to support qualified applicants fulfilling specific criteria. This funding will create opportunities for students to pursue their dreams without financial obstacles hindering their ambitions.
Overview of the Epos Point Donation Program
Members can donate their Epos points—valued at 1 point equals 1 yen—in increments of 500 points with a minimum of 500 points required to make a donation. In 2024, Epos Card saw over 20 million yen raised from more than 10,000 members, with 40+ organizations now registered for donations. The recent addition of Gaxi to the list of eligible organizations marks another step forward in enabling meaningful contributions.
