CATL Reaches Carbon Neutrality Target for Core Operations



In a remarkable achievement, CATL, a leader in the battery manufacturing industry, announced that it has successfullyHit its 2025 carbon neutrality target for core operations. This milestone was achieved on schedule, with all 20 battery plants receiving certification for carbon neutrality. "As global efforts toward net-zero intensify, the transition to zero-carbon batteries will evolve into a necessity with no room for compromise," Zeng emphasized. Achievements in Carbon Neutrality



Since launching its first battery factory in 2012, CATL has extensively pursued strategies aimed at achieving zero-carbon manufacturing. Among the significant innovations is the CATL Carbon Chain Management System (CCMS) launched in 2022 to enhance data transparency regarding carbon emissions at its facilities and with upstream suppliers. This meticulous system has provided reliable data across more than 1,000 product and raw material models.

Notably, in 2025, CATL recorded that 100% of its electricity consumption from core operations came from zero-carbon sources. Cumulatively, this translated to over 18 billion kWh of zero-carbon power utilized since 2023. Impressively, CATL managed a 28% reduction in energy consumption per product unit compared to the previous year, while its carbon emission intensity showed a drastic decline of approximately 77% over the same timeline. Collectively, these efforts allowed CATL to reduce carbon emissions by over 10 million tons of CO₂, equating to the entire national carbon emissions of Brunei in 2025.

Future Plans for Full Value-Chain Carbon Neutrality



Despite the commendable progress, CATL acknowledges that roughly 80% of carbon emissions occur across its supply chain, which surpasses emissions from its core operations by more than five times. Bryan Huang, Head of Procurement Center, stated, “Our approach will involve targeted initiatives across material innovation, manufacturing processes, green logistics, and extensive battery recycling efforts.” CATL aims for complete 100% green electricity usage throughout its value chain by 2035.

Suppliers demonstrating superior low-carbon practices will receive preferential treatment in order allocations.

Additionally, the new Zero-Carbon Supply Chain Empowerment Initiative will launch collaborative decarbonization efforts in partnership with 30 core suppliers to enhance sustainable practices industry-wide.
