The 2026 Koshinetsu Area Living Comfort and Desired City Rankings
Daito Kentaku Company has published its extensive living satisfaction survey under the names 'Living Comfort Rankings 2026 Koshinetsu Version' and 'Desired City Rankings 2026 Koshinetsu Version.' This survey marks one of the largest of its kind, collecting insights necessary for evaluating residential areas across the Koshinetsu region.
Highlights from the Living Comfort Rankings
In the latest survey, Nagano Prefecture's Suwa District earned the top spot in living comfort, followed closely by Obuse Town in Nagano and Showa Town in Yamanashi. Notably, Suwa District made a triumphant return to the first position, benefiting from its advantageous location providing access to major urban areas like Tokyo and Nagoya. This village is also recognized as a model area for encouraging migration, with strong community and governmental support aimed at welcoming newcomers.
The overall top five spots in the rankings were exclusively occupied by towns and villages in rural areas. Minamiminowa Village in Nagano made a significant jump from last year's seventh place to fourth, demonstrating a growing appreciation for these less urbanized locales.
Given that the living comfort rankings analyze responses accumulated over five years from 2022 to 2026, only municipalities with a minimum of 50 responses are included, ensuring robust and reliable results. If certain municipalities had insufficient data, older responses from 2021 to 2019 were also considered to bolster the ranking validity.
Insights from the Desired City Rankings
In a noteworthy trend, Niigata City in Niigata Prefecture retained its top position as the most desired city for five consecutive years. The rankings continued to place Tokyo's 23 wards in second place, followed by Yokohama City in Kanagawa which climbed one rank from fourth to third this year. Equal fourth places were shared by Matsumoto City and Nagano City from Nagano Prefecture.
A remarkable finding was that a significant 78.0% of respondents expressed contentment with their current living area. Out of these, 59.9% of participants stated they had no specific city in mind as a preferred future residence, while 18.1% indicated they wished to stay in their current location.
Detailed Rankings and Findings
The rankings provided deep insights into factors such as convenience of living, transportation accessibility, and safety. For example, Niigata’s Higashi Ward ranked third in living convenience, and Yuzawa Town in Niigata topped the transportation accessibility category. Additionally, Matsukawa Village in Nagano showcased exceptional performance in governmental services, attaining third place.
Moreover, Nakatsugawa City in Nagano ranked third when it came to silence and safety, while Yachiyo Village also in Niigata was recognized for its friendliness, occupying the second rank.
Each ranking factor is based on a score ranging from 0 to 100, where respondents indicated their satisfaction levels regarding their current living conditions. Evaluations were thus distributed into categories ensuring a comprehensive understanding of public sentiment.
Survey Methodology
The survey was conducted by Macromill Co., using internet-based questionnaires distributed to 31,092 adults (aged 20 and over) residing in Niigata, Yamanashi, and Nagano Prefectures, gathered over a structured time frame from 2022 to 2026. The survey also maintained a balanced gender representation and explored various demographic factors such as marital status and child-rearing conditions among respondents.
In conclusion, these rankings unveil significant patterns and preferences in living conditions across the Koshinetsu region, providing invaluable data for potential residents and policymakers alike. For further insights and details on methodology, check the official websites linked below.
