Seven-Eleven's Initiative in Takamatsu
In a groundbreaking move towards environmental responsibility,
Seven-Eleven Japan, headquartered in Tokyo, has announced the launch of its first food drive in Shikoku, marking a significant step in their commitment to community welfare and sustainability. Beginning on June 5, 2026, in honor of Environment Day, this initiative will be implemented across seven stores located in the city of Takamatsu.
On June 4, 2026, Seven-Eleven Japan signed an agreement with
Food Bank Kagawa to facilitate the food drive. This collaboration aims to collect surplus food items from local households, which will be stored in designated donation boxes placed in the participating Seven-Eleven stores. The collected food will then be distributed to individuals and families in need through the Food Bank Kagawa, helping to alleviate food insecurity within the community.
Objectives of the Partnership
The main goals outlined in the agreement include:
- - Providing support to individuals and families facing hardship.
- - Contributing to local welfare initiatives.
- - Reducing food waste in the region.
The roles of each partner in this initiative are clearly defined:
- - Seven-Eleven will place collection boxes in their stores and ensure the safe handover of donated items to partner organizations.
- - Food Bank Kagawa will distribute the donations to those in need, including underprivileged families and local children’s dining facilities, ensuring effective use of the collected items.
- - Kagawa Prefecture will assist in promoting the food drive and raising awareness among the local community about this vital initiative.
How It Works
Donated items will include a variety of foods such as grains, canned goods, instant foods, snacks, dried foods, seasonings, and non-alcoholic beverages. All donations must comply with the guidelines set by the Ministry of the Environment's food drive manual, available
here.
The food drive is not just about addressing food waste; it is also a solution to the pressing issue of food insecurity affecting numerous individuals nationwide. This initiative allows communities to donate surplus food, which will be redirected to those in need, creating a positive impact on both ends of the supply chain.
Seven-Eleven has been proactive in launching similar food drives across the nation. In October 2023, they started a food drive program in approximately 120 locations in Saitama City, with plans to expand this effort further. By setting up local donation points at nearby stores, they are making it easier for customers to participate in social contribution activities.

As this food drive is set to launch, it is a hopeful reminder of the impact collective community efforts can have.
