Tokyo is set to host an exciting walking event named
TOKYO Walk 2025, aimed at encouraging both health and community engagement through walking. Sponsored by the Tokyo Sports Culture Association, the event will take place on
October 25 in the central city area and
December 6 in the Tama region. Participants will enjoy a unique opportunity to explore Tokyo’s beauty while engaging in physical activity.
Event Overview
The main event, titled
“Waku Waku Walk,” emphasizes the joy of walking while discovering Tokyo’s historical sites and natural landscapes. This annual initiative had an impressive participation of 3,836 people last year, and this time it promises even more fun activities.
Routes and Program Highlights
There are two main walking courses participants can choose from:

Historical and Natural Walk – Aoyama & Shinjuku

Starting Point: In front of the
Shōtoku Memorial Picture Gallery, the course offers a splendid journey through
Meiji Shrine and
Shinjuku Gyoen, showcasing Tokyo’s vibrant city life and lush greenery.

Long Course: Approximately 18 km taking participants from the gallery through the shrine and into the Imperial Palace area.

Middle Course: Around 11 km focusing on urban attractions like Omotesando Hills and Shinjuku Gyoen.

Short Course: A pleasant 3 km stroll through the Gai-en and surrounding neighborhoods.

Enjoy the Views! Tama Trek Course

Additional Activities
In conjunction with the main walking events, participants can explore the
TOKYO Architecture Walking Tour, where they’ll enjoy audio guidance to learn about both historical and modern buildings around the walking sites. Plus, the
TOKYO Walk Marche offers a marketplace filled with delicious food stalls and merchandise to keep visitors entertained.
Special Rewards
Every participant completing both walking routes will receive an exclusive
original medal featuring the event's adorable mascot,
SUSIE. This medal captures the spirit of the walk and serves as a memento for those who undertake the challenge.
Smartphone Walk
For added flexibility, from
October 1 to
December 21, participants can join the
Smartphone Walk with three different courses. This allows walkers to enjoy the experience at their own pace, using their smartphones to track their walks. Interested participants can sign up for each route to experience unique areas of Tokyo without hassle.
How to Join
Registration for these walking events started on
August 27. With a entry fee of just 1,000 yen for online sign-ups and 1,500 yen for day-of participation, this event is an affordable way to experience Tokyo's charm while promoting health and wellness. Participants are encouraged to register early as the event is limited to 4,000 participants per session.
