Kia and LG Electronics Team Up for Game-Changing PBV Concepts
In a groundbreaking collaboration,
Kia Corporation and
LG Electronics have announced a partnership aimed at redefining mobility spaces. The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during the
2025 Seoul Mobility Show to innovate how we think about both work and play in vehicles using
PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) technology.
The unveiling of two futuristic concept models underscores a concerted effort to integrate
smart home appliances into vehicles, transforming them into dynamic environments suitable for professional and recreational activities. According to Kia's Executive Vice President,
Won-Jeong Jeong, this alliance is intended to herald a new mobility paradigm where vehicles transform into personalized living spaces.
Showcasing Unique Concepts
1. PV5 Spielraum Studio Concept
The first concept presented is the
PV5 Spielraum Studio, which caters to the needs of the modern entrepreneur who frequently operates on the go. This model features a blend of workspace efficiency and smart storage. Integrated with
LG's AI-powered appliances, including modular Stylers and smart mirrors, it optimizes the vehicle's interior to enhance productivity. The onboard AI synthesizes the user’s schedule, calculates travel times, and recommends appliance settings to meet their work needs effectively.
2. PV5 Spielraum Glow Cabin Concept
In contrast, the
Spielraum Glow cabin concept addresses the rising interest in outdoor experiences like picnics and leisure activities. Complete with amenities such as refrigerators, lightwave ovens, and wine cellars, this model facilitates an all-encompassing outdoor retreat. The appliances are equipped with
MoodUP™ panels, which adjust their lighting based on the user's preferences, fostering a unique atmosphere for every outing.
These pioneering concepts were prominently displayed at the Kia pavilion during the Seoul Mobility Show, which runs from April 4 to April 13, 2025. The namesake
'Spielraum,' translating to 'play space' in German, encapsulates the purpose of these PBVs – to provide adaptable and flexible mobility solutions.
Custom Solutions for Diverse Lifestyles
Through this collaboration, Kia and LG aim to personalize experiences for users with various lifestyles and requirements. As mobility technology continues to advance, so does the concept of vehicles that are not merely modes of transportation but also functional living spaces. As Jeong emphasized, this partnership is at the forefront of delivering mobility solutions that seamlessly merge vehicle travel with the comforts of home appliances.
With the launch of these innovative designs expected in the latter half of
2026, Kia and LG are well-positioned to lead the charge in redefining how we utilize and experience mobility in our daily lives. This bold step into the future promises a revolutionary change that resonates with the evolving dynamics of work, play, and everything in between.
