Hydro One Selected to Invest in the Red Lake Transmission Line

The Red Lake Transmission Line project, a priority for the province, will feature a newly constructed double-circuit 230-kilovolt transmission line running from the Dryden Transformer Station (TS) to Ear Falls TS, and eventually connecting to the Red Lake Switching Station. The development is set to add approximately 400 megawatts of electrical capacity to the northwest Ontario grid, nearly quadrupling existing capabilities. With operations projected to commence in the early 2030s, this initiative promises enhanced regional reliability while energizing newly connected northern communities.

Collaboration with First Nations

Under the First Nation Equity Partnership Model, these communities will have the opportunity to secure a 50% equity stake in the transmission line components.
