Exciting Field Trip Plus: A Practical Approach to Disaster Preparedness

Field Trip Plus: A Hands-On Learning Experience for Disaster Preparedness

On April 19, 2026, the Global Learner's Institute (GLI), an English educational organization dedicated to supporting transitions to boarding schools both domestically and internationally, will host the experiential learning program, "Field Trip Plus." This year's theme centers on "Disaster Preparedness and Safety Measures."

Why Learn About Disaster Preparedness Now?

In a country like Japan, where natural disasters loom close to daily life, possessing the ability to act decisively is a necessity. This program aims to equip participants with practical knowledge and critical thinking skills related to disaster response, ultimately empowering them to protect themselves and their families.

Three-Step Learning Design to Deepen Understanding

The GLI Field Trip offers a comprehensive approach that goes beyond mere observation, integrating learning, experience, and sharing:

1. Learn: Through exhibitions and explanations at the disaster prevention center, participants will gain insights into types of natural disasters and specific countermeasures.

2. Experience: Engage in hands-on activities such as:
- Earthquake simulations
- Smoke experience training (evacuation drills)
- Fire extinguishing exercises
Participants will immerse themselves in practical disaster preparedness activities.

3. Share: At the end of the day, learners will present their newfound knowledge in English through a short presentation (60-90 seconds), solidifying their understanding while making knowledge applicable.

Moreover, interviews and discussions in English on the topic of natural disasters are also scheduled, promoting the development of both knowledge and communication skills.

Maximizing Learning with Pre-Event Preparation

On April 18, the day before the event, a preparatory session will be held at GLI's Hiroo Second Classroom. This session aims to enhance the quality of the program by organizing foundational knowledge and questions. Even participants unable to attend will receive teaching materials and worksheets to ensure they can prepare effectively.

Ongoing Support for Participants

Families need not worry about their children’s proficiency in English, as staff will accompany participants throughout the day, supporting both comprehension and expression.
