Empowering Future Innovators at G's CAMP in Tottori
In February 2025, G's ACADEMY collaborated with Tottori Prefecture to host an intensive two-day program known as 'G’s CAMP × Tottori Tech Oasis'. This initiative focuses on nurturing a startup ecosystem and stimulating the creation of industries like space technology, providing a contemporary educational experience for participants.
Background of the Event
G's ACADEMY, part of Digital Hollywood, has successfully launched over 100 startups, emphasizing practical education where learners create their own applications and services. The program encouraged participants to experience the potential of technology-driven business ideas firsthand.
Tottori Prefecture is committed to nurturing talent aimed at solving local issues and promoting entrepreneurship. The camp integrated advanced technology, allowing participants to work with JAXA's 'Earth API' in the development of web applications.
Overview of the Program
Held at the Tottori Citizen Exchange Center ‘Kirin Square’, the workshop attracted participants aged from teenagers to those in their 60s. They focused on everything from basic programming to developing original applications over the two days. One of the highlights was the impressive involvement of younger participants, including middle school students, who showcased remarkable creativity that rivaled their adult counterparts.
Day 1: Learning and Application
The first day began with essential HTML/CSS lessons, progressing to dynamic expressions using JavaScript, culminating in the creation of a 'Fortune-Telling App'. By the evening, participants tackled a 'Rock-Paper-Scissors Game' project. They engaged deeply, with many expressing enthusiasm as they turned their abstract ideas into tangible products through direct involvement and guidance from instructors and tutors.
Day 2: Advanced Challenges
On the second day, participants presented the results of their 'Rock-Paper-Scissors' game, alongside learning sessions focused on business viewpoints in 'Creating New Businesses'. They also explored using the JAXA Earth API to further enrich their tech skills. The program wrapped up with each participant brainstorming and developing their app ideas, slotting into a self-managed development phase aimed at solving real-world problems.
Presentation Event
After a month of development following the camp, a presentation event took place on March 20. Participants showcased their applications through presentations, receiving constructive feedback from instructor Aime Sakajiri. Among the impressive projects, the highlight was a matching app connecting 'job seekers' with retail stores, created by Kotoha Mizumura from Seisho Kaichi Middle School, addressing local challenges with a tech-driven solution.
Post-presentation, participants also learned about app deployment processes and the potential of generative AI, revealing exciting future perspectives as developers harness AI as a supportive tool in their projects.
Highlights from the Projects
Some notable projects presented included:
- - An app featuring historical figure karuta in virtual reality
- - An app for searching hot springs in Tottori Prefecture
- - An app enabling learning through math quizzes
Testimonials from Participants
Participants expressed their newfound confidence in programming, sharing how enjoyable the experience had been. Many expressed hopes to continue using advanced APIs in future projects and reiterated how motivating feedback from peers helped them aspire to create more applications.
Conclusion
G's CAMP × Tottori Tech Oasis not only nurtured technological skills and an entrepreneurial mindset but also promoted community development.
