Duke Energy Florida Partners with CCA Florida to Safeguard State's Natural Resources

Duke Energy Florida and Coastal Conservation Association Florida Join Forces for Environmental Protection

In a significant move towards environmental conservation, Duke Energy Florida has expanded its partnership with the Coastal Conservation Association Florida (CCA Florida). On January 23, 2025, both organizations signed a renewed agreement aimed at fortifying their collaborative efforts to protect Florida's rich natural resources.

This joint initiative comes with a commitment of $100,000 from Duke Energy to support CCA Florida’s ongoing conservation programs across the state. CCA Florida is the foremost organization dedicated to the conservation of marine fisheries and habitats, focusing on education and advocacy. The partnership traces its roots back to 2017, reflecting a shared vision of sustainable environmental stewardship.

Today's announcement strengthens our commitment to work together to restock fish species, restore vital habitats, and safeguard the health of Florida's ecosystems,” said Brian Gorski, the Executive Director of CCA Florida. The organization’s primary goal is to enhance the quality of coastal habitats and water resources, a mission that resonates deeply with Duke Energy’s environmental initiatives.

The collaboration has already yielded remarkable results. Since their partnership began, Duke Energy’s Crystal River Mariculture Center has successfully raised and released more than 5.3 million fish and crustaceans along Florida's coastline. Additionally, over 40 million clams have been planted in the Indian River Lagoon, alongside the growth and planting of 100,000 eelgrass, mangroves, and marsh grasses as part of their broader habitat restoration efforts.

“Duke Energy Florida is committed to environmental stewardship, recognizing the invaluable benefits it provides to the communities we serve,” stated Melissa Seixas, the state president of Duke Energy Florida. “This renewed agreement highlights our dedication to preserving Florida’s rich habitats and restoring critical natural resources.”
