Saddle River Day School Club Raises Over $16,000 for Pediatric Cancer
Saddle River Day School's Rebels Against Cancer Club
In a heartwarming event commemorating Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the Rebels Against Cancer club from Saddle River Day School organized a fundraising initiative that successfully raised over $16,000 to assist families affected by childhood cancer. On September 27, the Saddle River community gathered for a delightful event titled the Princess Pancake Party, featuring brunch, exciting raffles, and auctions that captivated attendees. The event culminated in a magical moment for 6-year-old Serina, a brave leukemia warrior, who along with her family was surprised with an all-expenses-paid week-long vacation to Disney, Universal Studios, and SeaWorld, complemented by luxury accommodations at Give Kids the World Village.
The party was brimming with joy, offering fun-filled activities such as a bouncy house and pony rides, ensuring a memorable experience for Serina and her family. This initiative was part of the Adventure Ted Challenge, a national campaign organized by the Childhood Cancer Society (CCS) aimed at raising awareness and funds for families dealing with pediatric cancer.
Hannah Gurevich, the President of the Rebels Against Cancer club, expressed her thoughts on the event, saying, "Organizing this brunch with the Childhood Cancer Society was a meaningful experience. It was about more than just fundraising; it was about showing children fighting cancer that they are not alone. The students genuinely care, and together we can make a difference."
Tommy Head, Founder and CEO of the Childhood Cancer Society, reflected on the journey started with the Saddle River community last year and remarked, "It has been heartening to collaborate with Saddle River Day School. The dedication shown by the faculty and students during Adventure Ted's Princess Pancake Party demonstrates the profound impact that young individuals can have when they are supported by a caring community. This occasion was not solely focused on fundraising; it was about creating enchanting memories for Serina and showing her family that they are not alone in their fight."
The event saw generous sponsorship from various local businesses and entities, including Saddle River Day School, James Tracey Eye Care, Judith Greenberg, Sheila Greenberg, Little Nikki's Boutique, Saddle River Inn, and Peek-A-Booth. Each sponsor contributed to making the day a success and to aiding the noble cause of helping families battling pediatric cancer.
