Theatre Workshop Co., Ltd., based in Shibuya, Tokyo, is hosting the second edition of its enlightening series focused on the future of theatre design, entitled the "Theatre Architecture Seminar." This event is scheduled for May 22, 2026, at the P.O. Minami Aoyama Hall, located in Minato, Tokyo. The seminar will feature contributions from esteemed guests including Mitsuru Senda, President of the Environmental Design Institute, along with General Managers Shigeru Koto and Ikuko Kusumi. Throughout the seminar, attendees will delve into various theatre architecture projects, such as the Odawara San no Maru Hall, while collaboratively discussing the contemporary roles and future prospects of theatre buildings.

This seminar, which has received recognition as part of the "Architectural CPD Information Provision System," allows participants to earn credits after attending both in-person and online.

Mitsuru Senda


Environmental Architect and President of the Environmental Design Institute
Born in Yokohama in 1941, Mitsuru Senda graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1964, acquiring a Doctorate in Engineering. He founded the Environmental Design Institute in 1968 after working with Kikutake Kiyoshi Architects. Senda has served as a professor at several prestigious universities, including the University of the Ryukyus, Nagoya Institute of Technology, and Tokyo Institute of Technology. He has held various leadership roles, including President of the Architectural Institute of Japan and the Japan Institute of Architects.

Shigeru Koto


General Manager, Environmental Design Institute
Shigeru Koto, born in 1965 in Tokyo, graduated from Nihon University with a degree in Architectural Engineering in 1988. He has experience working with Atelier R, Rafael Viñoly Architects, and Sato Naoki Architecture Laboratory before joining the Environmental Design Institute in 2009. Koto is also a committee member of the Cultural Facilities Subcommittee at the Architectural Institute of Japan.

Ikuko Kusumi


General Manager, Environmental Design Institute
Ikuko Kusumi was born in 1967 in Tokyo and graduated from Nihon University in 1989. She has worked in set design at Toho Co., Ltd. before rising through the ranks at the Environmental Design Institute, where she currently serves as General Manager.
