Okayama University Hosts Practical Photography Course for Faculty Improvement

Okayama University Photography Course for Faculty

On August 26, 2025, Okayama University hosted a specialized photography course aimed at improving the photography skills of its faculty members. Held at the Tsushima Campus in the second conference room, this initiative is part of the university's efforts to strengthen its organizational promotional capabilities. Continuing from the previous year, the course once again featured expert photographer Makoto Tominaka from Tominaka Photography Studio as the lecturer.

Focused Learning for Practical Skills

In this second session, the course was structured to emphasize practical applications. Attendees received instruction on the fundamentals of camera operation, including various shooting modes such as Program (P), Manual (M), and Shutter Priority (TV), alongside insights on using autofocus (AF). The practical nature of the course extended to situational training that covered how to capture effective images during courtesy visits, meetings, and presentations.

Participants were encouraged to ask about best practices for selecting and capturing photos for use in articles on the university’s website. Tominaka offered valuable advice on effective photo selection and prioritization in such contexts.

Positive Feedback from Participants

The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many noting the practical relevance of the content. Comments included remarks like, "The course was directly applicable to my work and easy to understand," and, "The discussions about specific shooting scenarios were particularly helpful." This enthusiasm suggests a strengthened commitment among faculty to enhance their contributions to the university’s communications and public relations efforts.

Continuing Educational Outreach

Okayama University’s Public Relations Office has expressed intentions to continue offering various training programs aimed at further enhancing the promotional skills of faculty members. The initiative aligns with the university's vision to be a regional core and distinctive research institution. As such, we can expect ongoing developments and projects that reflect these commitments.

In conclusion, the photography course exemplifies Okayama University's dedication to fostering a culture of excellence and professional development among its staff, ultimately enhancing the visibility and impact of the institution within the local community and beyond.
