Significant Rise in Dubai's Higher Education Enrolment Expected by 2030
The educational landscape of Dubai is set for a significant transformation as a recent study predicts a remarkable growth of over 40% in higher education enrolments by 2030. Conducted by Dubai International Academic City and Dubai Knowledge Park, both key players under the TECOM Group PJSC umbrella, this study emphasizes the growing demand for higher education in the UAE’s vibrant metropolis. The findings were presented at the prestigious Going Global conference held in London, a platform renowned for fostering global alliances in the higher education sector.
The report, developed in collaboration with Times Higher Education (THE), highlights that the current enrolment numbers in Dubai surpassed 42,000 in the 2024-2025 academic year. As the city enhances its attractiveness as a global education hub, enrolments are expected to continuously rise, showcasing Dubai's capacity to cater to an increasing volume of transnational students. A notable point from the data is that the number of higher education providers in the city has grown by an impressive 37% in just two years. New establishments, like the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), which opened its campus in Dubai International Academic City in September 2025, are testament to this trend.
Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, who serves as the Senior Vice President of Dubai International Academic City and Dubai Knowledge Park, remarked on the fundamental role of education in influencing both individual prosperity and collective economic growth. He stated, ‘Education can transform individual prosperity and collective economic growth, and we must collaboratively future-proof our sector for the good of all.’ This sentiment underscores the need for educational institutions to adapt and align with the demands of the evolving workforce, facilitating growth not only in student numbers but also in quality and relevance of academic offerings.
The study further reveals that a staggering 73% of students surveyed regard Dubai as an advantageous location for employment opportunities, highlighting the city’s industry connections and favorable post-graduation work options. Moreover, employers have validated the educational quality of Dubai’s universities, with 88% affirming that students acquire relevant skills essential for today’s job market.
Additionally, Dubai’s educational framework is backed by overarching strategies such as the Dubai Economic Agenda 'D33' and the Education 33 Strategy 'E33', which collectively aim to fortify the city’s status as a leading hub for higher education. The city has become home to an array of reputable international institutions, accounting for 41 private higher education establishments, of which 37 operate international branch campuses from various countries. Notable names include the University of Manchester and the University of Birmingham, bolstered within the TECOM Group’s Education Cluster.
This rapid expansion illustrates Dubai’s ongoing commitment to refining its educational offerings and ensuring sustainable growth that aligns with global economic needs. As this promising sector evolves, it not only enhances opportunities for students but also strengthens Dubai’s international standing as a beacon of quality higher education. Moving forward, stakeholders in education are encouraged to work closely with government entities and industry leaders to shape curricula that respond adeptly to market demands. Undoubtedly, the journey of Dubai’s higher education landscape is one of optimism, innovation, and unparalleled potential.
