Aoba-BBT's Strategic Leadership Transition Towards 2027
In a significant move to enhance its growth strategy, Aoba-BBT, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has announced a transition to a dual CEO model as it approaches a pivotal year for its five educational institutions in 2027. In a recent board meeting held on September 7, 2026, the decision was made to appoint Iwao Shibata as Chairman and Tatsuhiro Masamoto as CEO, affirming the company's commitment to its multi-faceted educational mission.
The Rationale Behind the Transition
The decision for a co-CEO model reflects Aoba-BBT's expanding educational landscape, which includes international schools, online universities, corporate training, and entrepreneurial programs. With plans to launch the first international school in the Hokuriku region by August 2027, and collaborations with universities and local governments, the organization recognizes the need for heightened management resources to navigate its growing business complexity.
Iwao Shibata will oversee the overall growth strategy and external collaborations, while Tatsuhiro Masamoto will be in charge of operating the company’s management and educational content, ensuring that Aoba-BBT can efficiently adapt to changes in the management environment brought about by expanding business scales.
Introducing Tatsuhiro Masamoto
Tatsuhiro Masamoto graduated from Keio University, joining Nissho Iwai Corporation (now Sojitz) in 1990. His experience spans four years managing overseas forestry and wood processing businesses in New Zealand, which laid the groundwork for his later achievements. In 1999, he joined Business Breakthrough Inc. (now Aoba-BBT), where he spearheaded content planning and production as Head of Programming, before becoming a director in 2000.
His extensive experience in educational content management and dedication to Aoba-BBT’s mission culminated in his recent appointment to the role of President and CEO. Masamoto concurrently provides oversight to BBT Graduate School and serves as a director for Tokyo University of Technology.
Insights from the Leadership
Iwao Shibata remarked, “After a quarter-century in business, we have built a robust lifelong learning platform catering to various age groups. As we head into another quarter-century, I am excited to focus on strategic growth and business opportunity creation while entrusting Masamoto-CEO with executing our educational initiatives.” This strategy aims to facilitate quicker decision-making while balancing the quality of education with the scale of operations.
Masamoto echoed similar sentiments, stating, “Having been with Aoba-BBT since its inception, I am honored to lead us into 2027, which marks the anniversaries of five of our educational institutions. Our anniversary project will not be a mere celebration but an opportunity for all our alumni to engage, reflect on our journey, and embark on future endeavors together.”
2027 as a Landmark Year
The year 2027 will be a historic milestone, celebrating the anniversaries of the following educational institutions under the Aoba-BBT umbrella:
- - Aoba Japan International School (A-JIS) - 50th anniversary
- - Attackers Business School (ABS) - 30th anniversary
- - BOND-BBT MBA - 25th anniversary
- - BBT Graduate School - 20th anniversary
- - BBT University - 15th anniversary
Rather than simply commemorating these milestones, the organization plans to launch the anniversary project titled
“Lifetime Empowerment in the Invisible Continent,” fostering a platform for learning and collaboration among alumni.
Project Highlights
The anniversary project will culminate in an important event on March 13, 2027, featuring:
1.
ABS Business Open 2027 - A pitch contest showcasing business plans from entrepreneurs and students across five Asia-Pacific countries.
2.
Homecoming Event - A gathering for alumni, students, and faculty to reconnect and celebrate their journey together.
To ensure ongoing connections, Aoba-BBT is also promoting the
Lifetime Empowerment Network (LEN), a community built on its proprietary educational platform, AirCampus®, facilitating interactions and collaborations among alumni and current students across various programs.
