Lockheed Martin Welcomes New General Counsel
Lockheed Martin, a leader in defense and aerospace technology, has announced the appointment of Kevin O'Connor as its new senior vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary. O'Connor will officially step into this pivotal role on January 13, 2025, succeeding Maryanne Lavan, who plans to retire after an impressive 34-year tenure with the company.
O'Connor brings with him over 25 years of extensive legal experience across both government and private sectors. Most recently, he served as the senior vice president and chief legal officer at Carrier, where he managed legal and compliance operations globally. He was also responsible for government and regulatory affairs, devising strategies to support the company's growth on an international scale.
Before his time at Carrier, O'Connor held the post of chief legal officer at Point72 and served in high-profile roles within UTC including vice president of Global Ethics & Compliance. His legal career also saw him work as a partner at the prestigious law firm Bracewell LLP, and as U.S. Attorney for Connecticut. Notably, he was also an associate attorney general of the United States, making him a seasoned leader with significant experience in legal governance and compliance.
In a statement, Jim Taiclet, Chairman, President, and CEO of Lockheed Martin, expressed his confidence in O'Connor's abilities, stating, "Kevin is a proven leader who brings insight, expertise, and a shared commitment to our 21st Century Security® vision. I look forward to working with him... as we continue to prioritize strong governance and delivering more cutting-edge capabilities faster and more affordably to the United States and our allies."
The transition from Lavan to O'Connor is expected to be seamless as Lavan continues to serve the company as a strategic advisor through Q1 of 2025. Taiclet acknowledged Lavan's remarkable contributions over the decades, commending her leadership and integrity.
Kevin O'Connor himself stated, "It is an honor to join Lockheed Martin at such an exciting time in its history, when national security solutions are of paramount importance. The opportunity to work with such an incredibly talented team while continuing to ensure the highest standards in governance and compliance is truly exciting. I look forward to working with the leadership team to help advance Lockheed Martin's critical mission in this dynamic environment."
Lockheed Martin has consistently emphasized its commitment to innovation and scientific discovery in the defense sector. As a global defense technology company, it spearheads transformative technologies, ensuring that those they serve are always prepared and capable. O'Connor's leadership will be key as the company navigates future challenges in national security and global defense operations.
With O'Connor at the helm of legal affairs, Lockheed Martin is poised to uphold its high standards of governance while continuing to innovate and deliver solutions that meet the challenges of an ever-evolving security landscape. As the company moves forward, O'Connor's extensive experience and proven track record will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping its future initiatives and commitments to national security.
