Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia Calls for Submissions

The renowned Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA), known for being one of the largest international short film festivals in Asia and proudly accredited by the Academy Awards, will launch its global call for entries on August 1, 2026, for the upcoming 2027 festival. The festival continues to be a beacon for filmmakers, as it opens avenues for their careers through platforms such as Disney+ and unique award opportunities.

Beginning on August 1st, filmmakers from around the world can submit their short films across a variety of categories, including Live Action, Non-Fiction, Animation, and the special Cinematic Tokyo category. Additionally, the festival features projects tailored for emerging talents, such as the U-25 project aimed at directors aged 25 and under. For writers, the festival also welcomes entries for the BOOK SHORTS award and the engaging Branded Shorts initiative that runs throughout the year.

George Lucas Award: As a highlight of the festival, the prestigious George Lucas Award will be given to the best film, celebrating creativity and innovation in filmmaking. Established in 2018 to commemorate the festival's 20th anniversary, this award is named after the legendary director George Lucas, recognizing the exceptional work of filmmakers.

Filmmakers will utilize the Life Log Box (LLB) platform, created by Visual Voice, to manage their content while enhancing their creative portfolios. Participants will receive a digital wallet enabling them to engage in ongoing NFT voting and market sales directly on the platform.

Aspiring talents can take significant steps in their careers through SSFF & ASIA, particularly given the opportunity for finalists to potentially gain nominations for the subsequent year’s Academy Awards in the short film categories.
