ENEOS Selected for Tokyo's Decarbonization Fuel Utilization Support Project

ENEOS and the Path to Decarbonization in Tokyo

ENEOS Corporation has recently been selected for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's initiative known as the "Decarbonization Fuel Utilization Promotion Support Project." This project aims to support the introduction and expansion of low-environmental-impact synthetic fuels. By utilizing this support, ENEOS plans to manufacture or adjust the quality of synthetic fuels produced overseas at its domestic facilities, eventually supplying these fuels to various forms of mobility within Tokyo.

The synthetic fuels in question are produced using raw materials derived from recovered CO2 from industrial exhaust or the atmosphere, as well as hydrogen sourced from renewable energy. This process results in carbon-neutral fuel that can significantly reduce CO2 emissions throughout its lifecycle, thus contributing to the global effort to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.

Starting from September 2024, ENEOS will operate a synthetic fuel manufacturing demonstration plant with a production capacity of one barrel per day at its Central Technical Research Institute. This plant marks a significant step towards establishing manufacturing technology for synthetic fuels that can be commercially scaled, and ENEOS is committed to enhancing the awareness and promotion of synthetic fuels across Japan, beginning with Tokyo.

The ENEOS Group strives to balance its long-term vision of ensuring the stable supply of energy and materials with the goal of achieving a carbon-neutral society. This dual approach acknowledges their responsibility to provide stable energy and materials now while also paving the way for continued accountability in the future. The company recognizes the necessity of pursuing an energy transition that aligns with changing global demands.

In its pursuit of sustainable practices, ENEOS is dedicated to advancing various energy transition initiatives, including developing next-generation fuels that hold promise for contributing towards a carbon-neutral society. As ENEOS progresses in its decarbonization efforts, it aims to lead the way in innovative solutions that foster both environmental responsibility and energy security.

With projects like the Decarbonization Fuel Utilization Promotion Support Program, ENEOS is ensuring it plays an active role in Japan's climate goals by not only focusing on responsible fuel production but also on broad societal shifts towards sustainability. The company clearly understands the interplay between energy demands and environmental stewardship as it navigates this challenging but vital transition.

As synthetic fuels gain traction and recognition, ENEOS remains at the forefront of this transformative movement, ready to meet the challenges of the future while addressing today's energy needs. The corporation's initiatives will likely evolve as they continue to explore innovative pathways that achieve both efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Through this pivotal program, ENEOS reinforces its commitment to the energy transition, emphasizing its role in the broader narrative of climate action and sustainability, ultimately aiming to foster a cleaner, greener future for Tokyo and beyond.
