Upcoming Exhibit: "Refreshing and Rich Edo Paintings"

The Itabashi Art Museum is excited to announce an upcoming exhibition titled "Refreshing and Rich Edo Paintings," which will run from August 29 to September 27, 2026. This event promises to transport visitors back to the Edo period, a time when a variety of painting techniques flourished in Japan.

Edo period art is renowned for its diversity, with styles ranging from the Edo Kanō school, characterized by a lighter touch that emphasizes negative space, to Western-style paintings that incorporated perspective and shading techniques, prominent for their vibrant colors. This exhibit will explore these contrasting styles, represented by the keywords "refreshing" and "rich," showcasing the depth and allure of Edo paintings.

• - Dates: August 29 (Saturday) - September 27 (Sunday), 2026
• - Hours: 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM (Extended hours until 8:00 PM from September 25 - 27)
• - Closed: Mondays (Open on September 21, and closed on September 24)

1. Lecture: "A Clear and Relaxing Introduction to Edo Painting"

2. Art Course: "Enjoying Edo Painting with Onomatopoeia"

Date: September 5 (Saturday), 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM (Doors open at 1:45 PM)
Location: 1st Floor Lecture Room
Capacity: 20 attendees (Pre-registration required, first-come-first-served)

Cost: 500 yen

3. Gallery Talk by the Curator
Dates: August 29 (Saturday) and September 19 (Saturday), both at 2:00 PM (Each lasts approximately 30 minutes)
Cost: Free
Note: No prior registration needed. Just come to the 2nd floor exhibition room on the day of the event.
