OLEDWorks and Audi Team Up for Next-Gen OLED Lighting in A6 e-tron

OLEDWorks Partners with Audi for Revolutionary OLED Lighting in A6 e-tron

OLEDWorks, a leader in automotive OLED lighting solutions, has announced its partnership with Audi to supply cutting-edge Atala Digital OLED engines for the rear lighting of the all-electric Audi A6 e-tron. This innovative collaboration showcases the evolution of vehicle lighting systems, merging modern technology with design flexibility and enhanced safety features.

As part of Audi's Premium Platform Electric (PPE), the A6 e-tron introduces a remarkable rear lighting system. At its core are ten meticulously designed OLED panels, each containing 45 independently controllable segments. This configuration allows for a staggering total of 450 segments that can create dynamic lighting displays, fundamentally transforming how vehicles communicate with their surroundings.

Key Features of the New OLED Lighting System

1. Advanced Digital Display
The rear lighting of the A6 e-tron can now showcase expressive, dynamic lighting scenarios, enabled by a total of 450 segments across ten digital OLED panels. This advanced setup allows for customizable light signatures tailored to personal preferences, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the vehicle.

2. Vehicle-to-X (V2X) Communication
Incorporating a unique safety feature, the OLED panels deploy specialized rear light signatures that can alert surrounding drivers of potential hazards, thereby promoting better safety on the road. This includes proximity indications and warning symbols that are clearly recognizable, setting new standards in automotive communication technology.

3. Slim and Efficient Design
A significant advantage of OLED technology is its slim profile that negates the need for bulky optics and reflectors traditionally found in lighting systems. This not only results in a more stylish and modern appearance for the vehicle but also enhances efficiency in light output, freeing up design possibilities for automotive engineers.

The CEO of OLEDWorks, David DeJoy, expressed pride in this collaboration, stating, "We are delighted to integrate our OLED technology into the A6 e-tron. Our Atala Digital technology not only delivers crisp, high-contrast illumination but also facilitates innovative and expressive rear light signatures, including an industry-leading active digital light signature."

Wolfgang Görgen, Managing Director of OLEDWorks GmbH, added, "Atala Digital panels are evolving the Audi A6 e-tron rear lights into customizable, intelligent displays that enable Car-to-X communication. This marks a significant evolution not just in how vehicles light up the road, but also in how they interact with their environment."
