Explore the Emerging Potential of Local Businesses
Starting from September 26, 2026, the much-anticipated 13th phase of the '100DIVE' project is set to kick off in the picturesque locales of Niyodogawa Town in Kochi Prefecture and Atami City in Shizuoka. This innovative initiative seeks to empower participants to brainstorm and implement strategic business solutions aimed at addressing pressing local issues such as declining populations and economic vitality. With a limited capacity of 15 participants for each location, applications will officially open on June 30, 2026.
What is 100DIVE?
Founded in 2021, '100DIVE' is a pioneering project that aims to tackle real regional challenges through entrepreneurship. It combines the power of local and outside talents to create sustainable businesses that can flourish despite dwindling populations and the resultant socioeconomic difficulties. Over 26 regions across Japan have already benefited from previous phases, with 397 participants forming over 40 operational teams and 9 ventures successfully incorporating into businesses—one being KASEGI, started in the third phase from Hyogo Prefecture.
The Landscape of Niyodogawa Town and Atami City
As we direct our focus on Niyodogawa Town, this area is celebrated for its pristine 'Niyodo Blue' rivers and cultural heritage, but faces demographic challenges, with its population halving in the last two decades. The program encourages ideas that can revitalize the local commerce and leverage the community's agricultural and cultural assets.
On the other hand, Shizuoka's Atami City has long been a popular hot spring destination among tourists. However, despite its thriving tourism-driven economy, there lies the looming problem of high dependency on this single sector for economic stability. Participants are called to devise innovative business models that create at least 10 million yen in added value, ensuring sustainable development beyond the conventional tourist trap.
Collaborative Approach
In this 3-month program that spans across five sessions, people with a vision will collaborate to formulate actionable plans, win funding, and launch businesses that resonate with the local culture and needs. Engaging diverse talents within teams will provide unique perspectives, coupled with the wisdom of the locals, to delve deep into the core issues faced by these communities.
Key Themes for Participants
Participants will address vital regional challenges, aiming to create actionable solutions that promote not only local businesses but also revitalize the community spirit.
- - Niyodogawa's Focus: Breathing new life into declining commercial streets by creating substantial businesses that harness local agriculture and culture.
- - Atami's Direction: Introducing fresh business concepts that can diversify the economy beyond mere tourism, focusing on enhancing the community’s long-term viability.
