Discover the Joy of Japanese Seafood Cooking!



On October 21st, 2025, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, alongside Sankei Shimbun, will host an engaging cooking class entitled "A Simple Fish Cooking Class Featuring Fishermen's Choice Delicious Fish" at the ABC Cooking Studio in Shibuya, Tokyo. This event aims to promote the rich seafood culture of Japan and increase consumption of locally sourced seafood.

This class is the second installment following a successful event held in August that focused on families with children; this time, it's tailored for adults. Participants will get the chance to cook with the so-called "Pride Fish" – fish varieties passionately recommended by fishermen from various regions.

What to Expect



If you’ve ever wanted to incorporate more healthy and protein-rich fish dishes into your meals but felt intimidated by the preparation process, this class is perfect for you! Learn how to easily whip up delectable seafood dishes that are perfect for entertaining guests. Our event will also feature guest appearances by fishermen who will share the unique qualities and flavors of local seafood.

Agenda


Participants will engage in:
1. Presentation by fishermen, detailing the selection of seasonal fish.
2. Cooking lessons, where you’ll learn the recipes.
3. Tasting session, to savor the delicious dishes you’ve prepared.
4. Survey completion, to help us improve future events.
5. Memorable photo session and a small gift to take home.

Featured Recipes


Participants will learn to prepare the following dishes:
1. Saury Samgyeopsal Style - Lightly battered and fried saury served with a spicy scallion salad (Pajori), perfect for adult palates.
2. Kani Kimbap with Red Snow Crab - A Korean sushi roll made with seasonal red snow crab, topped generously for a truly indulgent experience.
3. Saury Chige - A popular spicy stew featuring fresh saury, known for its incredible flavor, making it perfect for any gathering.

Eligibility and Applications


  • - Participants: Open to adults.
  • - Capacity: 40 participants. If applications exceed this number, selections will be made by lottery.
  • - Cost: Free of charge.
  • - What to Bring: An apron and hand towel.
