Upcycle Display Support at Toyama Industry Exhibition: A New Era in Resource Utilization

Upcycle Display Support at Toyama Industry Exhibition: A New Era in Resource Utilization

Satisfaction Factory, located in Chuo Ward, Tokyo, took a significant step towards promoting sustainable practices at the "T-Messe2025 Toyama Manufacturing Comprehensive Exhibition" held from October 30 to November 1, 2025. This industrial exhibition aims to foster dialogue and collaboration in resource utilization, particularly focusing on upcycling efforts. By offering recycled materials for display furnishings, Satisfaction Factory underscores its commitment to the circular economy.

Background: Connecting Concepts to Implementation

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Satisfaction Factory has been at the forefront of supporting municipalities and businesses in enhancing the circular economy. The company endeavors to bridge the gap between conceptualizing resource circulation and implementing practical applications. Responding to a request from Ito Masanori of "家's" (headquartered in Takaoka City, Toyama), Satisfaction Factory proactively sourced materials suitable for an upcycle exhibition. The event is organized by a committee comprising various stakeholders from Toyama and surrounding regions, aiming to showcase the local manufacturing industry's transition towards sustainable practices.

Overview: Ideas that Utilize Local Scrap

With a focus on utilizing local waste materials such as casting machining chips and pressure-resistant plastic hose scraps, the exhibition seeks to highlight the creative potential of these resources. The design elements of the displays were redefined to illustrate how even materials marked for disposal could be transformed into valuable assets. A notable feature of the exhibition was a showcase designed using discarded acrylic partitions, which presented a simple yet striking visual appeal.

However, the reality remains that securing non-functional waste at the right time and in quantities can be challenging. This situation poses structural difficulties, making initiatives like this exhibition vital in demonstrating feasible options for waste utilization.

Role: Enabling Resource Conversion from Waste

Through its nationwide waste management network, Satisfaction Factory effectively consolidates field information to identify surplus resources generated by various companies and waste treatment operators. By doing so, they can quickly gather the necessary quantities of materials, connecting multiple waste sources to fulfill specific requirements effectively.

Voices from the Project

"Many companies in the region have already disposed of materials. We successfully implemented a concept to attractively incorporate upcycled materials into the displays."
– Okamoto Yuichiro, Design Director of Toyama Prefectural Design Center

"Despite the short preparation time of 2-3 weeks, your efforts in material procurement were invaluable."
– Ito Masanori,株式会社家’s

"I am very pleased that we managed to secure waste materials meeting all the required dimensions, colors, and conditions, allowing our contributions to be made successfully."
– Yokoyama Hiroto, Market Development Division, Environmental Solutions Department, Satisfaction Factory

Development: Creating a Sustainable Future

Positioning itself as an "Environmental Social Creation Company," Satisfaction Factory aims to enhance resource utilization through potential feasibility studies, application designs, and stakeholder coordination. This initiative represents an exit strategy for resource providers to reintegrate their outputs back into the community, emphasizing domestic recycling of resources generated within the country.

Through these exhibitions, the concept of resource utilization, rooted in domestic circulation, has found a practical application in real-world contexts.

Conversely, municipalities are faced with rising costs for waste management due to outdated incinerators, reduced operational capacity, fluctuations in energy prices, changing waste characteristics, and increased demands for sorting and processing. In this context, it is challenging for local governments and businesses to maintain ongoing collaborations toward resource circulation.

In light of these realities, Satisfaction Factory aims to serve as a hub that connects waste producers, treatment operators, and resource users, striving to create sustainable frameworks tailored to the needs of each region.
