Ivory Innovations Launches Affordable Housing in Summit County
Addressing a Growing Housing Crisis
On September 15, 2025, Ivory Innovations, an active foundation affiliated with the University of Utah's David Eccles School of Business, made a significant announcement that promises to transform the real estate landscape of Summit County, Utah—a region notorious for its exorbitant housing prices. With the median home price hovering above $1.6 million, many essential workers, including teachers, first responders, and local small business employees, find themselves priced out of their own communities.
The grand opening of Innovation Park at Francis Commons took place on September 16, 2025, and showcased its mission to develop affordable rental townhomes that are specifically designed for essential community workers. This initiative is a collaborative effort between Ivory Innovations, Ivory Homes, the Call to Action Foundation, and the City of Francis.
A Lifeline for Essential Workers
Innovation Park aims to alleviate the financial burden on essential workers, potentially allowing them to save up to $16,000 annually on housing costs. The development consists of income-restricted townhomes targeted toward families earning less than 60% or 80% of the Area Median Income. These restrictions ensure that the project serves the demographic most in need of affordable living solutions.
Clark Ivory, CEO of Ivory Homes, emphasized the importance of this initiative: "Essential workers shouldn’t have to choose between long commutes and living in their community. This project is the first step toward ensuring that those who serve our community can affix their roots here, too."
The new townhomes come equipped with state-of-the-art smart home technology, private garages, and energy-efficient design—a clear indication that affordability does not have to compromise quality or innovation. Families moving into these residences can also enjoy a community park with playground facilities, promoting a family-friendly atmosphere.
Collaboration for Success
The City of Francis played a pivotal role in expediting the development process. Streamlined approvals allowed the project to move swiftly, showcasing how public-private partnerships can effectively address pressing housing issues. This model could serve as an example for other rural communities grappling with similar challenges across the nation.
This townhome development is not just a one-off project; it is part of a larger vision supported by Utah Governor Spencer Cox's housing initiative aimed at constructing 35,000 starter homes in five years under the
