Green District Unveils Ambitious Smart City Plan in Parramore

The Green District Smart City initiative has officially submitted its plans to the City of Orlando, representing the first step in a transformative journey for the historic Parramore neighborhood. This project marks a substantial investment of approximately $2 billion, setting the foundation to create a comprehensive urban landscape where housing, transportation, technology, and community development seamlessly intersect.

Vision of a Connected Community

At the heart of this development is the Green District Smart City Live Local Master Plan, designed to honor Parramore's rich history while generating opportunities for both current residents and new visitors alike. Developer Tim Green stated, "This is a major step that has been years in the making. Our aim is not only to modernize by incorporating innovative technologies but also to uplift the community by fostering inclusivity and meaningful investment."

The overarching goal is to merge essential services such as transportation and economic development while honoring the cultural heritage of the area. Key features include affordable housing, educational institutions, and smart transportation solutions, all aimed at enhancing the quality of life for community members.

Infrastructure and Development

Highlighting the project are two Smart Hub parking structures located strategically at 17 N. Westmoreland Drive and 320 W. Clear Lake Street. These hubs will integrate retail services with multi-modal transit options and electric vehicle charging stations, thereby facilitating smoother travel for Orlando residents and tourists alike. A third facility will focus on health and emergency services, providing essential support as part of the larger transportation ecosystem.

Cooper Carry, a renowned architecture and design firm from Atlanta, is overseeing the planning and development phase. With over 60 years of experience, they have successfully engaged with community contexts, making them a fitting choice for a project with such profound ambitions.

In the future, the Green District plans to include a grocery store, four unique hotel offerings, expanded housing options, conference facilities, and diverse entertainment venues. More importantly, three of the hotel concepts pay homage to historic establishments that were part of the Black travel experience in America, such as The Green Book Hotel, ensuring that the legacy of these pioneers is embedded in the new development.

A Commitment to Community

The initiative is deeply personal for Green, whose roots in Parramore influence his passion for revitalizing the community. He expressed heartfelt ambition, stating, "What we're doing now is the first step to bringing that dream to life. I want to see this area grow into a safe and family-oriented environment for future generations."

As part of the innovative vision, the development will partner with Eve Air Mobility to introduce advanced air mobility infrastructures, including electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft systems. This eco-friendly transport solution is geared towards transforming urban mobility in Orlando and beyond.

The Green District project not only strives to address existing challenges but also sets the stage for future urban lifestyles. Groundbreaking is anticipated in summer 2027, backed by a diverse range of local and national investors, as well as community groups committed to the project’s success.
