Washington Trust's Generous Support for Local Nonprofits This Holiday Season

Washington Trust's Holiday Contributions to Local Organizations

This holiday season, Washington Trust Company has demonstrated its commitment to community welfare by supporting 40 local nonprofit organizations across Rhode Island. Through a combination of direct charitable contributions and in-kind donations, the bank aims to uplift families and individuals in need during this significant time of year.

The initiative, led by Washington Trust's Charitable Foundation, included generous grants totaling $18,000 designated for hunger relief efforts. Eighteen local organizations received $1,000 each, ensuring that vital food distribution services could continue to operate effectively. Notable beneficiaries include the Barrington TAP-IN, Comprehensive Community Action Program in Cranston, and the Saint Anthony Kitchen Ministry in North Providence, among many others. These contributions play a crucial role in ensuring that families experiencing food insecurity can access the assistance they need.

In addition to these financial grants, employees from various Washington Trust branches collaborated with local nonprofits to participate in holiday gift-giving campaigns. This effort allowed them to provide toys and gifts, meeting the seasonal needs of families. A remarkable 22 nonprofits received support through these initiatives, which included gifts for children and essential household items for families. Partner organizations ranged from the Coventry Housing Authority to adoption programs like Adoption RI, highlighting the diverse needs within communities.

Edward O. Handy III, Chairman and CEO of Washington Trust, emphasized the bank's dedication, stating, “Washington Trust truly values our local communities and is committed to supporting organizations that provide basic needs and family services to our neighbors in need.” The spirit of giving, especially prominent during the December holidays, aligns with their broader mission to foster community welfare.

As part of their continued commitment, Washington Trust not only supports hunger relief agencies but also assists various groups focused on providing families with the necessary resources to thrive. The numerous organizations involved underscore a collective effort to ensure that no one is left behind during the festivities.

The bank’s proactive approach reflects an understanding that many families find themselves vulnerable during this period. Washington Trust has prioritized partnerships with groups that have established strong ties within the community. Such initiatives reinforce the principles of generosity and kindness that characterize the holiday season.

This community-oriented endeavor is a shining example of corporate social responsibility at work, especially as the nation faces ongoing economic challenges. By facilitating support across such a wide network of organizations, Washington Trust helps to address critical local issues, ensuring that help reaches those who most need it.

Founded in 1800, Washington Trust is recognized as the oldest community bank in the United States and continues to expand its role in enhancing the financial lives of residents in Rhode Island and beyond. With a variety of services encompassing commercial banking, personal banking, and wealth management, their mission transcends traditional banking boundaries.

In reflecting on the bank's involvement this holiday season, community members can take comfort in knowing that institutions like Washington Trust are committed to creating a positive impact through tangible actions, especially during times when community solidarity is most needed. The commitment to charitable causes reinforces the idea that everyone can contribute to creating a better environment, one donation at a time.
