In July 2025, a unique educational opportunity will unfold for elementary school students across Japan. The renowned a.school, based in Bunkyo, Tokyo, will host the 'Inquiry Summer School 2025', a hands-on program featuring six engaging courses designed to ignite kids’ curiosity and creativity. This hands-on project-based learning model emphasizes the fusion of inquiry and genuine work experiences.
Program Overview
The summer school will welcome students from grades 1 to 6, inviting them to explore various professions through immersive and interactive learning. Covering fields like engineering, economics, business, arts, and mathematics, each of the six courses spans a week, providing 5 days of concentrated discovery and creation, with morning classes from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Classrooms will be open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, giving students ample opportunity for exploration both before and after classes.
Course Breakdown
Each week-long course is tailored to drive output-based learning, where students do not just absorb knowledge but apply it creatively. Here’s what your child can expect from each course:

Engineer Course (July 21-25): Dive deep into the mechanics of movement through cardboard constructions and electronics. Students will utilize design thinking to create original toys, simulating the roles of mechanical engineers and product designers.

Architect Course (July 28 - August 1): This course merges math and creativity as students tackle tasks akin to those of urban planners and architects. Through hands-on model-making, they'll learn about proportions and scales while designing ideal cities.

Creator Course (August 4-8): Young artists will explore both digital and analog expressions, crafting original stories, music, and videos. The course provides a hands-on experience of both creation and performance, broadening their creative horizons.

Game Designer Course (August 11-15): Learners will delve into the world of game development, designing card and board games while grasping the intricacies of rules and experience design. They’ll even get to present their final games in a playtesting event with peers and parents!
