DataStrike Survey Highlights Major Resource Shortages Facing IT Leaders in 2025
In a recent survey released by DataStrike, a recognized leader in data infrastructure managed services, the results depict a sobering picture of the challenges faced by IT departments across various organizations. The 2025 Data Infrastructure Survey Report showcases that over half (54%) of IT leaders are grappling with significant resource shortages as they endeavor to meet the escalating demands of data management.
The survey sampled nearly 200 IT decision-makers revealing that a staggering 55% of companies solely rely on their internal IT teams for data infrastructure management. This dependence underlines a pressing concern, as only 19% of these organizations choose to outsource these essential services, resulting in an overwhelming workload for internal teams.
Rob Brown, President and COO of DataStrike, expressed concern over the increasing pressure faced by IT teams: “They are being asked to undertake more tasks with fewer resources. This encompasses daily operational tasks alongside the integration of new technologies, data security, and delivering real-time analytics, all while working under tighter budgets.” This reality has only heightened the burden that internal IT teams bear.
In their findings, the report highlights that almost half of the respondents (49%) manage multiple database platforms, contributing to a significantly complex workload. Moreover, on average, IT teams are required to handle two distinct database platforms in addition to two cloud environments, thereby intensifying the existing strain on limited resources.
Cost optimization has emerged as a pivotal concern, with 23% of IT leaders identifying it as a primary objective for the upcoming year. Alongside this, the need for cloud instance optimization and formulating a comprehensive data infrastructure strategy remains paramount.
An interesting trend from the report indicates that a significant majority (76%) of IT leaders are now considering outsourcing their data management responsibilities. Furthermore, a considerable number (73%) of those already using outsourced services are keen on exploring other managed service providers to alleviate some of their burdens.
As the data landscape continues to evolve, the survey emphasizes a noticeable shift towards outsourcing as a viable solution. Organizations are increasingly looking to fractional support models and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to access the specialized skills they require without the need for maintaining an extensive full-time staff. This could possibly enhance their capabilities and support their operational demands effectively.
