PMI U.S. Launches 'Thanks for Giving'

In a significant step towards recognizing community efforts, Philip Morris International's U.S. operations (PMI U.S.) recently introduced the "Thanks for Giving" campaign. This initiative aims to highlight and appreciate the dedication of individuals and organizations committed to elevating the lives of North Carolinians, especially during the Thanksgiving period and #GivingTuesday. The campaign underscores a message of generosity that extends beyond mere words, as it acknowledges the efforts of local nonprofits and volunteers in their pursuit of creating a robust and resilient community.

According to Marian Salzman, Senior Vice President at PMI U.S. and one of the founders of GivingTuesday in 2012, the importance of generosity should not be confined to seasonal observances but integrated into our daily lives. Since 2022, PMI U.S. has demonstrated its commitment through financial contributions exceeding $35 million and a remarkable 400 percent increase in employee involvement in community service programs.

PMI U.S. has proudly allocated over $300,000 to 41 different North Carolina organizations that support local communities. Their contributions reflect their core pillars of giving, with significant amounts directed towards veterans and military support, economic empowerment initiatives, and disaster relief efforts. In acknowledgment of the partnership with local groups, Steven Rozina from The Independence Fund emphasized the impact of PMI U.S.'s support in recognizing veterans who have faced significant challenges.

One of the standout examples of how this support translates into real-life assistance is reflected in the work of organizations like Hope Station. Dr. Richard Childress, Executive Director of Hope Station, noted that PMI U.S.'s generosity enabled them to provide essential services to over 5,000 community members in need, ensuring that vulnerable families received nutritious food and a sense of dignity during their hardest times.

Additionally, the campaign promotes the WeCare program, which empowers PMI U.S. employees to nominate nonprofits for funded donations. This system has seen over 1,800,000 dollars distributed to more than 400 local organizations across the country in 2025 alone. North Carolina received a notable portion of this, with over $97,500 resulting from the directed contributions to support local initiatives.

Jennifer Sorenson from Rise Against Hunger succinctly stated that their mission to combat global hunger relies heavily on the contributions from partners like PMI U.S. As they strive to create a world free from hunger, the backing provided by PMI U.S. helps ensure sustainable progress in feeding underserved populations and fostering educational opportunities.
