JPI Seminar: Practical Responses to the Food System Act Amid Rising Costs
The Japan Planning Institute (JPI) is set to host a pivotal seminar on November 14, 2025, from 09:30 to 11:30, focused on the practical implications of the newly established Food System Act. Shigefumi Kikuchi, an official from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MoA), will provide essential insights into how the food industry can adapt to the rising cost environment.
Overview of the Seminar
The seminar is anchored in the recent amendment of the Food, Agriculture, and Rural Areas Basic Act, which redefines the concept of the food system. This legislation emphasizes the interconnectedness of all stakeholders involved in food production and consumption. The food industry plays a vital role in bridging the gap between agricultural producers and consumers. However, increasing costs at every stage of food production and sales pose significant challenges to the food supply chain.
In response to this situation, the MoA is committed to fostering sustainable development in the food industry and promoting price formation that considers these escalating costs under the framework of the Food System Act. The seminar will elaborate on the law and explore future policy directions with practical examples.
