In the historical city of Otaru, UNWIND HOTEL & BAR is set to mesmerize visitors with an artistic display that merges contemporary art with the allure of a historic building. This unique boutique hotel, originally established in 1931 as Hokkaido's first foreign-only hotel, has undergone an elegant renovation while preserving its architectural beauty. From June 1 to August 30, 2025, the hotel will host a special exhibition titled 'Radiating Light' by the local sculptor jobin. at its gallery, UNWIND GALLERY.

The UNWIND GALLERY is known for its focus on Northern artist exhibitions, introducing guests to the rich cultural tapestry of Hokkaido since its inception in November 2022. This is the gallery's 12th project, and it promises to deliver an immersive art experience, allowing guests to appreciate art that reflects the region's essence. Visitors will find themselves enveloped in a space adorned by the enchanting architectural style of the Art Deco movement, prevalent in Europe and America during the early to mid-20th century.

The exhibition will feature an intriguing collection of 25 pieces, including 14 new works and 11 past creations by jobin. The inspiration behind the theme comes from the artist's deep-rooted admiration for Otaru, a city she chose for her graduation project while studying architecture. She describes her fascination with the soft glow of candlelights within glass floats against the backdrop of historical buildings blanketed by fresh snowfall.

Her featured works will prominently include mobiles made from delicate wires, alongside sculptural representations inspired by the ethereal quality of light and shadow. Each artwork invites viewer engagement, allowing for a sensory exploration of sight and movement.

Guests can leisurely explore the gallery during different times of the day—soaking in natural sunlight during the day and enjoying a relaxed atmosphere enriched by the cool breeze of Otaru's summer nights. The interplay of light, shadow, and form will create a uniquely atmospheric environment throughout the exhibition.

In addition to the stunning visual displays, the hotel’s bar, Bar Ignis Otaru, will enhance the experience with Art Pairing Cocktails available only during the exhibition period. These cocktails, inspired by jobin.’s artwork, will combine tequila with the distinctive flavor of rhubarb liqueur, providing a refreshing adult beverage perfect for summer. A sprig of thyme will dance delicately atop, reminiscent of the artist’s mobiles. For those ordering these special cocktails, an exclusive palm-sized piece of indirect lighting will also be provided to heighten the artistic experience—an opportunity to literally take a piece of art home.

The 'Radiating Light' exhibition at UNWIND HOTEL & BAR is open to all, free of charge, from 7 AM to midnight. It seeks to democratize access to the arts, welcoming both hotel guests and local residents or wandering travelers.

Hailing from Ebetsu City and currently residing in Sapporo, jobin. incorporates elements of airflow, light, and shadow in her sculptures. Her work often features suspended forms that evoke a sense of floating. She has held multiple exhibits across Hokkaido and has expanded her reach to venues in Tokyo, Fukuoka, and beyond, including recognizing her talent in CM work for brands like Royz Chocolate.
