Huawei Unveils Four Innovative All-Optical Solutions for AI-Centric F5.5G Networks

Huawei's All-Optical Innovations at MWC 25

At the recent Green All-Optical Network Forum held during MWC 25 in Barcelona, Huawei’s Vice President of Optical Product Line, Kim Jin, showcased an impressive lineup of four all-optical solutions. These solutions are specifically designed to assist global operators in constructing AI-centric F5.5G networks, promising mutual benefits in the advancing age of intelligence.

The Current Landscape of AI and Connectivity

The global AI industry is rapidly evolving and driving the commercialization of 10 Gbps broadband networks for homes, as well as all-optical metro networks equipped with 1 ms latency. Huawei's innovative offerings are set to provide comprehensive end-to-end network implementation tools for service providers worldwide.

Optical Access Networks

With the surge in artificial intelligence, operators must upgrade Central Offices (COs) to support 50G PON technology to enable widespread 10GE access. Huawei has previously launched the MA5800T X17, the industry's pioneering intelligent OLT solution. It now expands its offerings with additional models—X15, X8, and X2—to address varied capacity needs. These enhancements feature the highest T-Level forwarding capability in the industry and support high-density 50G PON, facilitating operators to establish standout networks that can thrive in the next decade. The connection density of 16 allows for a one-to-one replacement of inventory. Furthermore, the new FAN Intelligent Engine architecture works in tandem with NCE, enabling application-level private line services, cross-user Wi-Fi optimization, and demand-driven computing power, aiding operators in achieving "Network as a Service".

Metro Networks

Last year, Huawei unveiled its AI-centric All-Optical Metro Architecture, offering a remarkable 1 ms latency for Data Center Interconnect (DCI) and Data Center Access (DCA) operations. The company now presents the fastest 2T board solution in the market with a single wavelength. With the newly introduced TFLN modulator, the single-wavelength capacity has been boosted from 1.6 Tbps to 2 Tbps, reducing costs per bit by 20%. Additionally, the energy-saving algorithm for ocean currents can automatically shut down idle circuits based on real-time traffic data, resulting in potential power savings of up to 50%. Latency pre-detection and planning mechanisms also enable proactive recognition of fiber latency, providing a latency map view and a planner for AI service deployment.

Backbone Networks

The OSN 9800 K series, which made its debut last year as the industry’s first data center-oriented OTN solution, now sees the introduction of K12, which supports more scenarios with a smaller rack footprint. An enhanced Forward Error Correction (FEC) algorithm allows K12 to achieve 30% better performance and extend transmission distances for 800G by an additional 1000 km. The optical switching time has been reduced from 10 seconds to just 50 milliseconds through the fiber spectrum for Hybrid-ASON, ensuring optimal costs while maintaining network availability at an impressive rate of 99.9999%. Moreover, introducing Dual-Feed Dual-Receive and rapid deduplication algorithms greatly enhances the efficiency of AI computations.

Intelligent Management and Control

Huawei's iMaster NCE introduces AI for smart management and control. In purely optical access scenarios, the HBB Agent can proactively identify poor quality and automatically rectify issues within one minute, resulting in a 60% reduction in user complaints. For all-optical transmissions, the digital map proactively detects network and service risks, capable of resolving problems within 15 minutes.

Kim Jin stated, "AI is rapidly transforming the world, unveiling unprecedented opportunities for optical networks. Huawei is committed to continuous innovation to help operators build high-quality, efficient AI-centric F5.5G All-Optical Networks and harness new prospects."
