ZPMC Introduces the Wind of Ocean

Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (ZPMC) has recently marked a significant milestone in maritime engineering with the unveiling of the Wind of Ocean, the first Service Operation Vessel (SOV) developed specifically for the French shipping firm, LD Armateurs. This launch represents not just a new vessel, but a pivotal step forward in enhancing capabilities within the offshore wind sector in Europe.

The Wind of Ocean is designed to manage the complexities of offshore operations while prioritizing environmental efficiency and the comfort of crew members. Measuring a noteworthy 90 meters in length and 19.6 meters in beam, this SOV can accommodate up to 96 personnel, making it suitable for extensive offshore missions. It boasts impressive endurance capabilities, allowing it to operate seamlessly for over 30 days without the need for resupply, particularly in the demanding conditions of the North Sea.

Innovative Features

Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the vessel features a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system that incorporates lithium batteries. This system not only complies with lower emission standards but also increases operational efficiency. Furthermore, the Wind of Ocean is outfitted with a Dynamic Positioning Class 2 (DP2) system ensuring stability and precision during operations, alongside a 3D motion-compensated crane, which aids in maintaining efficiency and safety when transferring personnel and equipment.

One of the standout attributes of this vessel is its design as a "floating hotel." The living quarters are crafted to prioritize the well-being of the crew and maintenance technicians, promoting a comfortable and supportive living environment while working offshore. Future Endeavours

The project does not stop at just one vessel. ZPMC has plans for an additional SOV, which is currently in the keel-laying phase. This marks the first collaboration between ZPMC and LD Armateurs, indicating a fruitful partnership aimed at enhancing offshore wind infrastructure. Once both vessels are completed, they are set to provide continuous operational and maintenance support at the DanTysk and Sandbank offshore wind farms located in Germany's North Sea. This support will include servicing equipment and replacing spare parts throughout the operational lifecycles of the wind farms, reinforcing the commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
